Ugh okay, don't know what happened, but my BigSky started to really distort at longer decay times. I did play around with pickups, could it be that they're too hot? Also distortion pedals don't sound as good as they did as well ...

Dude, that's the worst luck! Hopefully the tele can be fixed. As for delay pedals, I'm a huge DE7 fan. If it had tap tempo I'd have one on my board.

Most definitely the bad kind haha. Uncontrollable screech. I thought about trying wax potting. I never even thought about the possibility of it changing the sound.

Try using a different guitar and different amp. If multiple pedals are sounding different, I'd want to rule out other parts of my signal first.

Yeh I will. I think it's probably pickups somehow ending being too high.

Sounds like it could be your tubes or something else in the amp. Try a different amp. If it's the pickups, you'd notice issues when boosting in front of the BigSky.

Damn. Yeah, potting would help. I read an article by Curtis Novak saying that it can result in a dead-sounding pickup, but I imagine if you know what you're doing it should be fine. I think the greater issue is when potting is used to improve a pickup that will sound shitty no matter what.

There's a noticeable difference in using distortion pedals. I think.

THE SECOND COMING

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: a waste of desert sand;
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Wind shadows of the indignant desert birds.

The darkness drops again but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

Yeah, I'm wondering if the amp is changing and negatively impacting the sound of everything going into it, you know?

Thanks man, here's hoping. At this point I'm wondering how much it's gonna cost me to fix and if it's worth it; guess I'll take it to a shop next week(or more likely the week after) figure it out.

I'm not sure how much I'd use tap tempo; that's kind of the deciding factor I guess in which one I choose.

If tap tempo is some thing you think you will need/use a lot.... look into the Cusack Tap a delay. The factory setting is nice, but a little underwhelming. Turning the internal tone pot up a bit adds some of that old-school digital delay crunchiness that you can get on the tape mode of the DE7, and you have tap and modulation on it. That is my main delay at the moment after wanting something that sounds like a DE7 but has tap. It took some playing with that tone trim, but ultimately, I am pretty happy with it.

Looks nice, but quite a bit more than I'm looking to pay at the moment.

I definitely appreciate it, man. I used to have a DE7, must have gotten a bad one or something because it was having switch problems; I sold it onto a friend, might be time to pull $50 out and go hunting for a deal again, because I loved the sound.

You've got me wanting to buy a de7 now lol.

I can't buy any gear until after I get my bassman fixed. It works, but it's been making some crazy crackling sounds and the deep/bright switches are all wonky. I think it just needs a couple caps replaced and a good internal cleaning. Shouldn't be a big job. Just need to get around to it.

Also thinking of getting rid of my 4x12 in favor of a 2x12. We'll see.

I played an 18 watt marshall the other day at guitar center and it sounded so awesome. Had a greenback in it. Makes me want to try greenbacks with the bassman haha.
