That's been the vibe I've been getting from Spy, ENB and Vaati's vids. Vaati in particular seems to be sick of people thinking he has nothing but praise for it and has been throwing the odd really harsh criticism into his videos lately. It really is a great game on it's own, but as far as being a Souls game, it's easily my least favourite. Even without the usual "better than triple A's standard" qualifier, I think it's a fantastic game, it just misses so many of what I, and seemingly a lot of the fanbase, consider defining characteristics of a true Souls game. The DLC, by the way, is better than most of the main game's later areas. I'm having so much fun exploring the Sunken City.

I'll express my preference of DS2 over the other two Souls games yet again by saying that I played DS2 for 9.5 hours today.

I know this because I started a new character this morning and now the file is at 9.5 hours.

Anyone feel like the DLC NPC's are super fuccking smart? Like crazy smart? Like scary smart?

The rolls, the timing, the parrys, certain perfectly timed blows. That shit is nuts man. I really like the DLC a lot.

The DLC is brutal. So much poison and magic/miracle/pyromancy resist. Makes me so bitter. but there is hope, WITH ARROWS. MANY MANY ARROWS.

A little reminiscent of Artorias DLC, but not enough to warrant a valid comparison.

It's good I suppose. I haven't played it through past the first boss fight yet. Not super impressed. The level design is ok but it seems like they just throw a ton of the same dudes at you all at once. In fact that's what happens right off the bat.
show

EDIT: I actually just realized I'm playing it on NG+ where pretty much everything kills me in 2 hits so maybe that's coloring my views on it a bit

Those poison dudes are surprisingly easy to parry.

The three NPC boss thing is a "challenge run designed for co-op play". It's meant to be physically impossible by yourself. I'll just let that sink in while I go chew through some wood in spite.

Anyway, the rest of the DLC, Shulva and the Dragon Rest, are really good. Cave of the Dead is dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, etc, but the huge sprawling temples of the Sunken City have me totally enchanted. The main boss of the area is also rad, love how he keeps making an appearance as you progress down the paths.

Is infusion in Dark Souls 2 straight up better than having a normal +10 weapon?

I'm a 40/40 STR/DEX build, and I'm using a +5 Lost Sinner's Sword. This gives me an AR of around 530. If I infuse it with Dark, I gain about 130 AR, even though the scaling becomes so much worse.

I know the Lost Sinner's Sword has some weird scaling going on with sin (I've picked up 1 point of sin from using the Cracked Eye Orb), but this still seems a bit odd.

Overall, yeah, infusion makes weapons stronger, but since the damage ends up being split between magic/dark/fire/etc and physical, there are certain situations where it will end up weaker.

For most situations though, yeah, it's better to infuse.

Ok thanks. I probably wont infuse it, as I'm doing a 'flesh and steel' character at the moment, but it does explain why I hit a bit weaker than other people in PvP.

it wasn't even like the rest of cave of the dead was that difficult at all solo
that's stupid

yeah I just finished it, it's good. kind of reminds me of a less hellish version of the underground firey temples place that I forget the name of where all those taurus demons are in DS1 except with that silvery DS2 kind of polish

Yeah, I got a very heavy Izalith vibe as well! I also got a weird Tower of Latria vibe, for DeS fans out there. It really is a great update. The amount of looping shortcuts and ways around the areas REALLY pleased me after the linear paths of the main game.

Dark Souls 2 with a good ENB is almost like a whole new game.
Almost.

Remember that preview footage where they showed that it was basically pitch black on down the stairs and in the hallway leading to Solider's Rest, and a torch actually did something there?
Yeah. ENB.
I recommend wickfut Dramatic version, put in-game brightness all the way down then two to the right. Wasn't a fan of the GEM-GeDoSaTo ENB because it just overlayed the effects over the screen and made all the menus and stuff look like shit.

I'm now seeing one of the major bad things about soul memory.

I've been thinking i'd like to set up a SL150 for PVP, because I hear that's the most widely agreed upon SL for PVP in DS2, but how do I stop my soul memory from going up after fighting people?
Eventually i'm just going to be matched up with a bunch of SL300-800 guys and I won't be able to match up with other SL150s.

Soul memory puts you in a bracket. You get interesting builds when before the 15 million tier takes place with reasonable levels. Once that happens you become the meta. 15 mil and up are all joined in with each other, until otherwise specified since FROM put in more brackets.

How to prevent soul memory? As of this moment, there is no specified way to hold down your soul gatherings. Most of the time you fight in ng+ you get 4000 and up from players.

The best thing to do for low level stuff is to stay in ng, but you will still get matched with high levels. My level 45 cleric sm 200k has been invaded by high level pvp players, and not exactly twinks either.

ng sucks tho, its very hard to find a match after a while if your sm goes up and you can still get paired with high level players. At least in ng soul memory doesnt go up as much. It doesnt even go up in duels.

I think that the game is focused on soul memory. Soul memory is going to actually be the games lore and we have to continue on our journey to fix soul memory. I honestly cant think its good idea otherwise.
