They're all cirrus converters, though they're not really the same converters.

Also even leaving the pre's out the circuit in which they are put has as much effect on the conversion as the converter chip itself, else they'd all use ESS sabre's and they'd all have the same AD/DA dynamic range plus a bunch of other equal specs, and most importantly they'd all have the same sound.

They don't though, so...

Not even.
I mean these down there aren't spectral analysis, though they are a way of verifying the converters' transparency.

?

All of the high end converters I've seen pride themselves with their transparent sound.

Metric Halo, RME, high end MOTU, SPL...

The only interface I've seen that's designed to sound colored and vintage is the focusrite LS56, and while I haven't hear one myself the reviews aren't really that good.

Sorry for starting such a fu@king mess here boy's, but I think I'm gonna go with the Tascam US-1800 after all. Like MatrixClaw stated, I'll probably never really hear the difference between the Tascam and the Scarlett (especially with my virgin recording ears), so I might as well save myself a few bucks. A friend of mine is actually trying to sell one that's in mint shape, so I'll likely get that for a steal!

Thank's again for the solid advice Spambot!

Just an FYI, but the US-1800 is on sale at Sweetwater today for $178:

I still wouldn't recommend one, just based on the stability issues I had with mine, but as far as sound is concerned, it's not a bad unit, considering its price.

I've got a Scarlett 18i20, Tascam US 1800 and a Saffire Pro 40. I'll probably do some reamps through them. I also have an ISA 2 pre that I might run through them as well.

So I picked up an Apollo Twin.

Not noticing much difference at all in D/A conversion (haven't gotten a chance to use the A/D side yet).

The UAD plugins are just dandy though.

Duo, the twin doesn't come in quad otherwise I'd have gotten that.

Any of the other interfaces I've had (Saffire Pro 40, Saffire 6 USB). It is better than the UX2's, though.

Thanks, I'm super stoked!

Also, I forgot to share with you guys this plugin I found; I think it's an EZ Drummer killer because it does basically the same thing for absolutely no cost: http://www.powerdrumkit.com/

So i'm planning on upgrading my interface. I bought a used UX1 a few years ago on Amazon and have had difficulty getting good DI's to mix with. I asked around and some have told me that using EMG's would explain why it's been clipping. So the Scarlett 2i4 seemed to be a good choice since it's gotten good reviews all around.
Should I get the 2i4 or simply go to a higher level? What do you think? Thanks.

The 2i4 would work for that.

I though would get a mackie onyx blackbird if I was you.
More input headroom so you got less chance of overloading the input, and it sounds plain better if ya ask me.

Edit: you may be using bad sounding amp/cab sims and/or you may suck at mixing.
What programs/plugins are you using?
Mind letting us hear some works of yours?
Also is the input gain all the way down on the UX1?

I heard good things about the Mackie interface but I don't really have an extra $300 available. So around the $200-$250 range seemed like where I am able to go. As long as I can get good quality DI's.

Sorry, mackie onyx blackjack.
Costs about as much as a 2i4.

It looks pretty good as well. Do you have any references with the Onyx Blackjack? I can't seem to find any ones pertaining to high gain tones.

You shouldn't pay attention to the people explaining how well an interface does at particular types of guitar tones, because interfaces are neutral products that are made to handle whatever types of sounds you want out of it. What you're looking for is basically just headroom & quality conversion to allow your signal to pass into the digital realm as cleanly as possible. I don't have personal experience with the Mackie Onyx or the newer Focusrite Scarlett line, but they both look solid to me.
