I actually had no idea Lauren did anything music-wise. She has some good material?

I saw Lauren open for Iron Maiden on their Somewhere Back in Time Tour a few years ago. Live, I thought she was pretty good. I got her CD that night, and it's just OK. She did a cover of a UFO song, Natural Thing. It's not bad, it's just really mediocre. It feeels like the rest of the band is just going through the motions.

I still listen to the CD from time to time, but mainly because it reminds me of that awesome concert and her dad's band.

Fuck dude haha... that's pretty funny. I would've been less inclined to check it out anyhow, but I really have no interest in checking out his solo now.

As for Lauren, I'd heard her band as the pre-Maiden band at their concert here in the SF Bay Area. She wasn't bad... and her guitarist (who I believe now plays for Judas Priest in place of KK... *gosh what has the world become*) was pretty good.

Bollocks...

So what about that "join my quest for fire" stuff. You guys like that better, huh.

Yea, "Quest For Fire" is far better than anything on Steve's solo album. At least "Quest For Fire" is really fun to play too.

I very seldom make it past the first line of Quest for Fire. Sun and Steel is fun though, I never really get why those two are chucked in together.

Does anyone know of any bands out there that play in the style of Iron Maiden's Somewhere in Time album? Because that is perhaps my favorite Iron Maiden album of all time and favorite album cover as well and I would like to here bands that are heavily influenced by this album.

I am not sure if this has been mentioned already given the size of this thread but I must say that Adrian Smith's solos are absolutely amazing on Sea of Madness, Stranger in a Strange Land, Caught Somewhere in Time and the Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner! I also like the science fiction themed lyrics as well and the general sound of the guitars. The background synthesizer is absolutely perfect too, being not too overbearing.

I think the Somewhere in Time/Seventh Son of a Seventh Son type sound with the synths and such was quite influential on European power metal bands. But I can never get past more than a couple of tracks in any of that type of album without hurling so someone else will have to recommend something in that regard. You may or may not be interested in checking out 'The Warning' and 'Rage for Order' by Queensr˙che, they weren't inspired by Maiden at all, at least not that era of Maiden since those albums were released long after Queensr˙che formed, but they have Maidenesque guitar arrangements, use of synthesisers, and science fiction themes creep into the lyrics from time to time. I can't actually remember what the lyrics on SiT were like but it might be too far into dystopian territory than what you're looking for. Par exemple.

I don't think you'll find anything that instantly makes you think of any of those albums, but I would put them in the "progressive power metal" genre, and in that regards there is no way you won't like a band like Kamelot. Pagan's Mind might also be interesting to you.

Bump'er cars! I'd like something explained to me, as I think my music terminology is a bit off...

At 2:43 of Afraid To Shoot Strangers and 2:56 of The Edge Of Darkness, are those classed as solos or something else? Melodies? Motifs? Riffs? Interludes? I dunno, I've always called them "solos", but because they repeat so much, does that exclude them from the definition of a solo? I've always thought "high pitched collection of notes = solo".

Oh yeah, and who plays each of them - Gers, Murray or both?

Clive Burr has died as a result of his MS.

Really sad news, as well as being such a great drummer and important part of their early sound he was by all accounts a really nice guy.

Been listening to this concert in remembrance, so much energy and enthusiasm in those drums...

Yeah it's too bad about Clive Burr. He was a great drummer.
