I really hate headphones so I would prefer option B. However I would think for the sake of practicality, it would be smarter to just take the neck off of a regular guitar, put it in carry on, and store an amplug in the case with it.

I admit, this was my first instinct. The Pignoses look really excellent but they're a bit pricey. The First Act ones look very similar to that Music Alley one I linked to and I'm just a little concerned that it might be rubbish. I bought a Tanglewood "Electric Elf" strat for my son many years ago and it's cute but a nightmare to intonate and tune.
I am considering picking up a super-cheap 2nd hand guitar and micro amp off ebay and getting down to some serious butchery, unless a cheap pre-built solution turns up.

I have an AmPlug and it's great but not so good for a "songs around the camp fire" scenario. Having seen a few neck-off solutions made me think it can't be that hard* - even a regular bolt-on is only 4 screws.

Maybe I could combine both of these ideas into the Ultimate Travel Axe!

* Famous Last Words: "I mean, how hard can it be, right?"

I've had a similar idea for a few months now; buying a knock-off strat style and ripping out the neck and middle pickups, and putting in an amp an speaker in there place, complete with 3-band eq, and a distortion/clean channel switch.

I'd actually be in a good place to be in those competitions now (ie, have job, time) but I probably still wouldn't get anything done...

I miss seeing the competitions, there was always such cool stuff for them. Anyone remember the puzzlecaster?

I've just changed my amp settings and now I hate my life.

Does anyone else get that?

My rig was never that complex. I don't play much anymore anyway.

I haven't had an amp for about six years.
But I know what you mean.
I'm sorry for your loss.

PS: What's with all the fret levelling at the minute?

My Big Muff parts came today, so that's what I'm doing tomorrow! I'll probably socket the trannies on the off chance I find some mojo ones.

The other day I finished up a Robot Pedal for a friend. Not my cup of tea... I honestly don't see why someone would want one of those things. It's just a noise toy, and an expensive one at that.

Made me an extra $50 though.

I'm all down with the influx of crowning and levelling questions. That stuff is more important than "HOW CAN I GET A RAZORBACK TEMPLATE?" (we all know you just use Wordpress for all of your templates).

It's a noisy toy that you can make and somebody else can't. Enjoy the $50

I'm down with wiring questions. I actually know something about wiring.

Oh Christ on a crutch.
Someone on DIYSB bought some etchant from a company that now seems a bit sketchy
This Question/Answer part I quoted below on the Amazon listing leaves no doubt to that IMO.

This is more of a PSA than anything else.
(Ok, so I'm outing a "company" that seems a bit sketchy).

Its just that this is potentially bad and downright dangerous in a worst case scenario.

From that page:

Q: Why don't you provide the MSDS or what the chemical is. Isn't it illegal to ship hazardous materials without documentation?
A: This product is a multipart formula and is designed to be not particularly hazardous, but as with all chemicals care should be taken to avoid exposure.

@Mint/Jim - no problems with the questions; just odd how we seem to get gluts of the same sort of thing. A while ago it was all neck swapping.

@CodeMonk - I love the clarity of the phrase "not particularly dangerous".

I'm startting to collect parts for my travel guitar project. (Mustn't forget to book the actual holiday at some point).

For some reason, that "answer" just really pisses me off.
This is one of those times where I would love to be able to punch someone in the face over the internet.

And it gets better...

The guy selling it calls himself "Professor Fullwood".

He's full of something, but its not wood.
