You might look for a Seagull 12.

If you care for their sound- as I do- an Ovation 12 might work as well.

You can save yourself a bit of money and get a new Epiphone DR-212. Don't let the price throw you off, the guitar actually plays and sounds amazing. I got one this year for Christmas and I fell in love with it.

hey dude, i havent really looked at the epiphone website, but it says select spruce on the mf website.
usually select spruce isn't really solid- it's just a marketing scheme.
I may be wrong, please correct me if so.

Guitar Player Magazine actually gave this guitar an "Editor's Pick"award, when they reviewed ten 12 strings a few months ago.

The next "commonly taken" step IS the Seagull S-12, but the price for the acoustic only model is about $500.00. These are solid cedar tops, a bit more mellow than spruce. Something to think about with a 12, they trend toward being a bit shrill.

There are also a couple of Yamaha models about $300.00 worth checking out.

At a $170.00 sell, The Epiphone can't be a solid top. "Spruce", or as in this case, "select spruce" is a euphemism for "laminated". If it doesn't say "solid spruce", it's not.

If the Yamaha model is available in AE, (for not too much more money), I'd suggest going that route.

Even playing alone, I like to amp & EQ 12 strings , in order to kill some of the high end, and boost the bass a bit.

Don't get me wrong, "jangle" is cool and all that, just not too much of it while playing unaccompanied...
