Necroing this thread for a question I can't figure out. What kind of paints are used for the base paint and stuff? Like the actual colors. Every time I google for options I always get nitro and poly, and then when I look for those they're always clearcoats. I'm a bit confused now on where to find nitro or poly colors, even if they have color.

Look at the bottom of this link for the Nitro Gibson and Fender colors.

If you have your own spraying equipment: http://ftp.lmii.com/products/finishing

If you want to use Acrylic Lacquer for primer, color, and clear coats, look for the Krylon or Duplicolor brands. Make sure it's not enamel, available at most auto shops, Sherwin-Williams shops.

Note also that most bigbox DIY stores carry house-brand Nitro in spraycans ... got a few when they were $4/can.

I actually realized that the cans of paint I have where urethane instead of enamel so I might use those. Not poly though. I have a nitro clearcoat I got from reranch, so is it ok if I do all the colors in regular urethane then cover it with nitro?

Alright, also how do you let the neck dry? I know the body usually hangs from some hooks, but I never seen what people do for the necks.

I put a hanger through the hole for a tuner peg or in a hole where the neck screws to the body when I dry my necks.

Hey got a question.. I gotta remove the clearcoat on a guitar im repainting, i have already sanded down the clear coat i think...
Im not sure if i have completely removed the clear coat or not tho.. Its definatly not as shiny as before but it still feels smooth and looks like its a matte finishon it..

What is the question or your goal?

If it's to refinish it with another opaque colorcoat, it should be fine to spray the new color.

what im tring to do is remove the clearcoat and spray on a few coats of primer.then after that i will be swirling the guitar

just not sure if i removed the clearcoat fully because its still very smooth but not shiny at all looks like a matte finished guitar and dont know if the primer will stick to it

if tinypic.com was working id upload pics for you :/

thanks
