Hey you dandy lads,

I seek mentally tormented hardcore punk. Needs to be fast, angry, and depressing. Think along the lines of the B side of Black Flag's My War (but faster) or the title track of Neurosis' Pain of Mind

L.S.D. - Jast Last

Some soppier hardcore is Articles of Faith. Listen to Remain in Memory.

Otherwise I got some other stuff but I am on my way to class and stuff so I will get a list sometime later

Didn't forget, got busy you know how it is:

Poison Idea - Feel the Darkness
Youth Youth Youth - Sin
Citizens Arrest - Colossus
Rudimentary Peni - Death Church
Carnivore - Retaliation (you should just re-listen to this frankly )
Icons of Filth - Used Abused Unamused
Tragedy - Vengeance (closer to crust)
Siege - Drop Dead (closer to crust, angriest music I've ever heard. pure vitriol)
Integrity - Season In The Size Of Days (definitely listen to this if you're mad/sad/negative emotions)

also some newer stuff that I personally found really good (kyto posted a thread the other day):

Gospel - The Moon Is A Dead World

I did listen to LSD and Articles last night, and the only other band I'm familiar with is Carnivore (as expected). I'll delve into this post haste, and will pass good word on to President Trump not to invade your province (we will instead raze Quebec and erect Tim Hortons on every street corner)

I don't know the extent of your hardcore knowledge but you might have heard these already. They are on the crusty side.

Dystopia - Human = Garbage
Anti-Cimex - Raped Ass

Does anyone have any good tech death bands to share? I've been listening to some Spawn of Possession and Gorguts and I'm looking for something similar. A bit more modern and technical than bands like Cryptopsy and Suffocation, but less proggy and scifiy than bands like modern Obscura. The rec thread actually doesn't have a tech death section so I can't scour through it...

Hey folks --

Was hoping you could point me in the direction of some atmospheric/slightly melodic black metal (I don't know how else to describe it).

Basically, I've been playing the shit out of Blut Aus Nord's Memoria Vetusta trilogy and Ultima Thulee for the last year and a half and it's not getting old. But if there's anything else out there along those lines, I'm sure I'd love it.

Some other, similar bands I like are (though they are different in their own ways):

Imperium Dekadenz
Winterfylleth
Drudkh
Wodensthrone
Drautran
Ulver
Walknut
Windir

And I've listened to/own all of the standard-fare second-wave black metal out there as well.

What am I missing?

A few bands from the Black Twilight Circle might tickle your fancy:

Arizmenda - Within the Vacuum of Infinity / Stillbirth in the Temple of Venus
Rhinocervs - 11 / 12 / 13 / 14
Kuxan Suum - Dimensiůnes del Trance Kůsmico
Odz Manouk - Odz Manouk
Kallathon - Before Drifting into the Abyss

Maybe a bit closer to what you're looking for:

Wedard - Eiskrieg II
Helheim - Jormundgrad
Frost - Poison of your Thoughts (more melody driven, second wave black metal)
Forteresse - Mťtal noir quťbťcois
Sui Caedere - ThrŤne
Aurvandil - Ferd
Saor - Aura

tried to go across the board on sound quality, kinda take your chances lol. The BTC is probably the least underproduced stuff, whereas Saor is very clean.

And I second Saor.

What are some good oddball death metal bands, like Gorguts and Demilich and so forth? I heard Antediluvian's Through the Cervix of Hawaah was some real nigga shit so I ordered that, and got the new Chthe'ilist joint, but I want something that's going to hit me like the first few bars of Obscura always does

Early Septicflesh have a Dead Can Dance meets death metal vibe to them, so there is that. I imagine you are familiar with some of their later works like Communion.

I would presume you are well familiar with Unquestionable Presence.

Subterranean Masquerade is really out there but doesn't focus solely on the death metal aspect. You might enjoy them still.

While not death metal, Obliveon's From This Day Forward is right up that alley if you haven't looked at it before.

La Rumear Des Chaones had that stellar EP, more of a mix of black metal with King Crimson but it fits.

There was a band VG rec'd a long time ago that had a concept based on Jack the ripper, can't for the life of me remember it though. Someone else may

You might want to check out Antediluvian's Kib's project, Bruhlvahnatu - Uterine Acid Swishes.

Here are a few other ones I found interesting:

Traumatic Voyage - Traumatic...
Summum - Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domine
Question - When
Caarcrinolas - The Egg
Mithras - Shadows Lie Behind the Madness

This was an incredible release. Truly blue balled the metal community.

Hey, I listened to this stuff after you recced it, was pretty great. Loved their overall atmosphere.

Also I believe there's a slight typo there.

fixed and yeah, I enjoy Mithras a lot. One of the bands that has at least 3 albums worth of quality content and nobody wants to talk about them.

Yeah, I'm not the least knowledgeable guy about odder death metal out there and I had never heard of them before. They're definitely staying on my player for a long time.

Listen to my man Severed when it comes to DM, or just metal in general. He is all-knowing, and Mithras is godlike.

Martyr-Hopeless Hopes (worth checking out. Forgotten Canadian DM. Technical as fuck)
Augury-Concealed OR Fragmentary Evidence (Both are great. They are spacey kinda, but definitely worth checking out imo).

Anata-The Conductor's Departure (Great melody infused DM)

Lykathea Aflame-Elvenefris
Appalling Spawn-Freedom, Hope & Fury (The Second Spawn)

I paired those two because Appalling Spawn became Lykathea Aflame. Definitely worth checking out if you're into the more technical death metal stuff.

How about Desecresy? They arrange death metal riffs into more ambient structures that spiral outwards into space. I've only listened to Chasmic Transcendence and Stoic Death, but I believe all of their albums are of a consistent quality.
