Actually I kinda feel the same way. At least if you are like me and don't particularly want to study anything yet. Esp. b/c I also "struggle with writing papers" But **** I really don't want to sign another lease and work that off for another year either. That will not help to nourish the soil of the beautiful flower I still hope to become. ![]() French is a dece major though esp. for a "CDN" or someone who likes medieval poetry. OMG actually being able to read Baudelaire. Or Proust! ![]()

i don't like medieval poetry (though incidentally i was just skimming some villon) but yeah it's pretty cool. i just hit the 'hey i can actually read stuff reasonably' point recently and it's cool. have not really attempted baudelaire yet but that should be a priority. i didn't think i cared about proust but then i heard richard hell talk about how he was reading in search of lost time and it sounded psychedelic as shit so i guess i have to read it eventually. what a chore. what sucks though is i won't be able to take any cool classes until next year cuz i have to take the intermediate-level requirements first. so next year will be another wasted year and my fifth year will probably be very demanding and homogeneously french. i'm way better than all my classmates though. i was really close to joining a normandy study abroad group at the last minute to get those credits but it was a home stay thing where i would have to live with some old people. and since i 'struggle with' dealing with people personally, and since i don't care about travel (in the physical world ) in the first place, and since it was expensive, and since it would not change when i graduate or anything, that is not happening.Last edited by █▐▌█▐▌ : 05-02-2013 at 02:59 AM. |

I had an internship in an office once. It could get boring & tedious at times, but I got to sit in an air-conditioned environment & drink free coffee all day, so overall it was pretty good gig.

My friend is a really "good" French major like, future professor status and junk and it seems like Proust is not something one reads for pleasure but rather for the intellectual pursuit of dissecting it and hacking through its density. So basically, I will never read Proust in any language. ![]() I am done reading things because they are "classics" or "essential" or one of the "75 books every MAN should read" etc. I know enough about my own taste now that I know what I like and most of the stuff on those "lists" I don't like at all. Proust quotes are kinda cool though. Just like Nietzsche. You can basically just wikiquote most "essential" works of philosophy and fiction and come off like you've read them as well as anyone who has. ![]() Quote:
Yeah that actually sounds pree dece. If I get stuck on another lease I am deff gonna try to get me an office jerb. And Actually I have a pretty solid resume now so I may even land an "adult position" or whatnot. If only I knew how to code, I could be making $80k riding my sidecar motorcycle to a hip start up in Kendall square. ;__;

yeah i was kinda doing that a few years ago before i 'found/made' my 'niche'. still have a reading list from then on my computer and it's like psh no way i wanna read thoreau. still might go through le monde's books of the century eventually as exercise or something. most of it is lame but 'know your enemy' (via greenday) right? huh, i have never been such a poseur. always found isolated quotations cheesy, they remind me of in high school when there would be a quote on the board and everybody would have to write a journal entry about it.i guess at one point i took up the task of trying to 'understand' 'intellectual' stuff so i could be a level above 'poseurs' (which i assumed were more of a strawman than anything but it seems they are actually more real than i thought). ~fvck nietzsche~ btw Last edited by █▐▌█▐▌ : 05-02-2013 at 11:11 PM. |

I was trying to make an ironic statement about how so many people who are in charge of dictating what the "classics" are or pretend to know them to any degree really just end up boiling complex works down to silly vapid quotations for angelfire sites but I guess I did not create the proper textual environ to accomplish that goal. ;__;

Basically I drink company coffee and make Excel spreadsheets all day. sometimes I put sales info into a terrible proprietary database system that runs in Virtual PC. The people who are too important to do the bitch work send emails to customers and suppliers all day. As for how I got the job, the answer is reddit. |
