I'm going to Manchester (unless Sheffield blows me away next week when I visit) and I'm doing Law with politics. It's a conditional offer though so I'm studying my ass off for my AP US history test that I need to get a 5 on. I'll start working on my student visa in June. btw why is your location 'Paris/Manchester?' I would love to split my time between those two cities.

Ah nice one, my home town
I don't know anything about law or politics so I can't offer input on which of those is better, but Manchester uni is supposed to be a pretty damn good university. Good luck

I'm from Manchester, go to university in Huddersfield (university town about 50km away), but am on placement in Paris right now at a research institute. Paris is the best place, but I have to come home in July

Roehampton is a very nice campus, and in London which is a perk. They've got pretty decent employment figures too.

The other consideration for straight men is that its about 70% women....

Definitely go for it mate. I'm doing English in Exeter and loving it. Honestly, if you budget right and aren't too wild with your money it can end up being reasonably priced. I get by on £15-20 a week on food and maybe £25-30 on alcohol/nights out. Which roughly works out at like 180 or 200 a month, which isn't too bad. At the end of the day, you'll have experiences which you'll remember forever while at uni (for better and worse) so the cost won't seem as important if you get a good job out of your degree and pay back the loan.

Didn't you say you're at IRCAM or something?

Because that'd be mental

How much French do you speak?

Also, all this talk about food expenses are great for me because I typically eat like an anorexic hobo.

I am indeed and it is fairly far on the mental side of things.

Dunno what it's like in Glasgoo but there's quite a few Asian supermarkets in Bristol, do good and interesting food for a good price usually. Buy certain shit when it's on offer and don't eat out as much (thought I've been a bit naughty with that this week ).
Also unfortanetly I don't live too close to one but this here is your god...

I hate Aldi. I don't cheap out on food and spend 8-10 euros per day on that (and stuff like toothpaste etc is included though. Being vegetarian is frikking expensive.

When I was eating meat I spend 5-6 euros per day.

English Universities can be really fantastic and typically offer better prospects (at an undergraduate level) than a lot of other universities, particular those in the US because you're fully specialised and immersed in your subject, rather than picking modules here and there. The downside is usually less choice, the upside is a great degree.

I have however gotten into Essex, Roehampton and Middlesex, but as I said, I'm a little unsure ..

I studied English Language this year up at glagow uni. It's a very interesting course.

I think Aldi's better than a lot of the big supermarkets for some things. Admitedly there's a lot of stuff from Aldi I wouldn't touch! Also people like to bunch Aldi in with Lidl, same sort of shop but Aldi's quality is just so much better than shitty shitty lidl!

Reason I'm going for english is because it's enjoyable and it's the only thing I feel I'm better off doing, and I got a high grade. I'm by no means "good" at it and have much left to learn of course.

That's only limited to stuff within the Defence Forces (and the two years of placement during the secondary level vocational programmes).
