Whenever I do pull downs (Wide grip or otherwise) or cable rows, I don't feel it in my back. Mostly in my arms but never concentrated on my back. I'm doing it wrong, aren't? If I go light, I could feel it in my back but that seems pointless. When I go with a weight I can pull without losing form, I don't feel it there.

Squeeze your shoulder blades together and squeeze for a second or so

do these to feel what your lats activating feels like

transfer this knowledge to your other pulls

make sure you're retracting your scaps at the full concentric part of the movement.

Anyone have a good workout rountine? I consider myself an intermediate lifter, but I am trying to cut down weight, I am 5'10 and 225 lbs. Looking for a 4 day split that only has exercises with the barbell and dumbbells... that's all I have access to and every workout I've seen always has a machine I don't have in them. Thanks a lot guys

Pretty much. Crossfit at it's top level is frankly amazing, outside of that I have issues with it. But the training methodology it's based on I think is great and something I have moved into doing and I'm in way better shape.

Your first motion for any pulling motion should be either retracting or depressing your shoulder blade.

Went to a gym with some character today. My pass works there apparently. Likely the new owners will turn it lame eventually, but right now I love it: Dark, dingy, cold, boxing ring, wrestling mats, gymnastic rings, old plates, ugly green machines, a ****ing straight metal pullup bar!

Had a good leg and core day in there, knee felt great. Only squated 245, and no problem with the knee but only did a few sets to be sure. Hanging ab work. Couple other accessory stuff.

it's the basic philosophy behind lots of training, cross training specifically, which existed well before crossfit.

Crossfit just successfully rebranded and commercialized it.
