Epiphone LP standard or Hamer DC?
First some back story.
Got a Greg Bennet LP since I am looking for more of a Les Paul tone, or at least a fatter, warmer tone. I am not too happy with the GB LP guitar. Feels plasticy, cheap, and the guy at Guitar Center lied when he said the electronics were in perfect working order. Now I was looking at the GC used section and found a few Epi LP standards going for pretty cheap as well as a few of the Hamer XT DC's. Both are in my price range (I'm going used, since I'm poor so no more than 250-275 bucks). I know the newer Epi's are MIC and the Hamers I'm looking at are MIK, both are mahogany body, bound mahogany necks. I have a few reservations about the MIC, but I notice a few people here have the Epi LP standards, so I was wanting to get some input on them. I have heard that typically MIK is the way to go. I will be using this for blues, maybe some rock, not much metal though since my Aria Pro II is my metal machine. For those who don't know this is a Hamer Xt DC. show
What say you people of UG? Go for the Epi LP standard, or go for the Hamer XT DC?

I'd go for the Hamer, but I'm a sucker for DC's and Martin Barre seemed to dig Hamers through the 70's. That said, the MIC Epiphones that I've played have been of good quality. Are you planning on swapping any electronics, or do these top out your budget?

Well I called and got info on the Hamer. It is in nearly perfect condition and it comes with original Seymour Duncan pups. The guy I spoke to put the phone down and and played it so I could hear what it sounds like.
I am SSSSSOOOOOOO getting that guitar. He put it on layaway for me, cuz after tax and shipping it's a little over my budget. Now I just have to take back the Greg Bennett POS and get the extra dough. I ****ing hate being poor damn it!

I think you made the right callPost some pics when it comes in! And, yes, being broke sucks, but it will help you appreciate the gear you do have, at least in my opinion. |

Definitely picked well. I've yet to see a MIC guitar that can compete with a similar MIK one.
