Speaker choices!

I'm going to be building myself a 2x12 and I need speakers. I'm probably going to be buying a Mesa Single Rec. I want a really versatile tone as I am in two really different sounding bands. One plays Metalcore (Bullet For My Valentine, The Amity Affliction, Trivium), the other is like a British indie/garage funk sort of sound (Blood Red Shoes, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bloc Party).
I want a really punchy tight sound. I want it clear and defined, lower mids are a must.
Budget may be an issue. I want to be under around $230ish AU for the pair. I had a look at WGS. Most of their models (around $70US) would come up under budget after shipping. Shipping is the real killer. About $80 from the US.
Any suggestions would be really appreciated

Warehouse speaker are great. I had a 2x12cab with ET-65's.
Very tight bass and no harsh highs. And i play Prog and Death Metal.
So i would recommend the ET-65.

How much are Eminence speakers in AU? It may be cheaper than the WGS +shipping.

Rectos go good with V30 type speakers. So if you doing WGS I'd say a Veteran 30/Retro 30 and an ET65 or a Veteran 30/Retro 30 and a Reaper HP

I had a look on eBay. Eminence all seem to be too expensive.

What about Peavey 3120s? I'm still undecided on amps. What I get will be semi-dependant on how much the cab costs me to build. Thanks for the suggestions! Will look into those.

lower mids tends to mean more american-voiced speakers. most celestions (or celestion-based) speakers are higher mids.

are you sure you want lower mids? that's the other thing.

You can order from Musicians Friend. They ship to Australia.

The reason I mentioned Eminence is the people who own/run WGS worked at Eminence before they branched out on their own. And Eminence are very good speakers.

Well it's just that I want a really punchy, kick-in-the-balls type tone. I just assumed that would mean lower mids. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I know what I like and want but I'm not entirely sure how to describe it in bass/mids/treble terms.

I have no idea how much MF shipping would be. The Eminence speakers themselves are slightly more expensive than WGS, but if the shipping is cheaper than I'm more than happy to go with them. Any one have any idea how much it would cost to ship them here to Australia?

Thanks for your suggestions so far. It's greatly appreciated.

^ yeah. it's just a lot of those higher gain tones (far as i'm aware) use vintage 30s, which are mainly higher mids (but they normally combine them with a recto or diezel or something like that which is darker).

another way round it is to use the speakers like you're suggesting if you have a brighter/higher mid amp. an eminence texas heat or swamp thang (or combination of those two) will do that- but then your more vintageindie/funk tones don't really sound "right" if you're after brighter tones. (granted v30s wouldn't really be right for those tones either, so there's gonna be some compromise almost nomatter what you do.)

it really just depends on what you want and need.

EDIT: the et65s, or maybe the liberators (i haven't tried the liberator) might be worth considering. that's actually a pretty decent call.

Well I'm tossing up between a Peavey 3120/XXX or a Mesa Single Rec. As far as I'm aware, they are both brighter/higher mids amps. That could be wrong, though.

I had a look at the Liberators. The description and audio clips on the site sound like what I want. I think I'll go with those.

V30 + G12K100 combo = glorious. All the cutting goodness of the V30 with the delicious punch of the K100.

i don't think a recto is all higher mids- i haven't tried the single recto though, maybe it's different.
