Easy Metal

Sup guys and gals.

I've been playing for a bit of time and I am still pretty much a beginner, though I got the basics down. The problem is that It's been almost a year since I got my electric and I still cant play a single metal song from start to finish, it's just bits and pieces. The closest to that is Fade to Black by Metallica, but the solo still kicks my ass... I got like 95% of the song but a few sections stop me from playing it from start to finish.

So... Could you recommend me some metal songs that don't have shredding solos? For example Redneck by Lamb of God doesn't have a solo at all and the song is kickass, although a bit too difficult for me yet... So you get the idea.

I just want to have a few songs that I can play along with the recording and bang my head off.

Favorite bands: Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, Opeth. Preferably E standard or drop D.

(I hope this is the right forum, since it's about my skill and whatnot.)

TL;DR: I want to headbang while playing songs from start to finish but I cant shred 'cause I'm a wannabe. What to play?

All help is greatly appreciated.

The easiest metal song I can think of is For Whom The Bell Tolls by a long way. Very simple, physically pretty easy. Usually my first choice when people ask this.

The other option is to learn the rhythm parts for your favourite songs. Something like Heir Apparent is pretty easy if you ignore Frederick Åkesson's ridiculous solo. The clean parts might give you some pause but it's not that tricky. In the same vein, Symphony Of Destruction is easy if you just play Dave Mustaine's part and ignore the solo.

Omerta by Lamb Of God is an easy song in Drop D... Very catchy riff if you'd ask me
Enter Sandman by Metallica, although I don't like to play it.

Do you like Judas Priest at all? You can try Breaking the Law, that was one of the first metal songs I learned.

These are some fairly simple songs, remember that you don't HAVE to play the solos.

Black Sabbath - Symptom Of The Universe - Hand Of Doom - Electric Funeral
Accept - Ball To The Wall
Iron Maiden - Twilight Zone
Burzum - War - Lost Wisdom
Celtic Frost - The Usurper
Judas Priest - Breaking The Law - Living After Midnight
Metallica - Seek & Destroy
Poison - Look What The Cat Dragged In - Talk Dirty To Me
Savatage - Living For The Night
Sodom - Christ Passion - Persecution Mania

Thanks. I've been considering doing rhythm parts, it's slightly cheaper because you don't feel the epicness of playing a solo, but hey, one day...

I just learned For Whom the Bell Tolls and I'll check out the other suggestions tomorrow.

I have to say, there's a lot to be said for just playing the simpler parts live, you really get to just rock out and really have fun without having to actually think about what you're doing.

Ripping it up live is all very well and good but for the most part people in the audience don't care that much anyway

Eeeeyeah... Heir Apparent will keep me busy for quite some time... Ridiculously awesome song though, can't believe I've never listened to it.

And the "feeling" when you pull off that one solo is purely about the satisfaction I draw from playing. Not to anyone, just me and my guitar. I'm sure you can relate.
