Question Turning a pup selector into a killswitch?

Hey UG. My electric has a standard three-way pickup selector (blade). I never use the middle position while playing, it just doesn't sound good on electric (imo).

Is it possible to turn that middle position into an "off" position? It would be really useful, and cool if I could. Let me know what you think... 'cause I don't. Note: I only have one vol pot and one tone pot.

roll the volume on one set of controls. I do this on a G-400 with a 3 way roll the nec volume off and the 3 way becomes a kill switch.

We're not very helpful tonight, are we?

Maybe the easiest thing to do would be replace the 3 way switch with a 5-way and don't wire up the contacts for positions 2 & 4. It might take a superswitch to do that. Don't know if those fit in a Dinky. Barely fits in my Squier & I had to dig out a lot of wood to make it fit.

Or you could install another switch (or switches) that short out the neck (and/or the bridge), and then the 3-way will do that when you want.

I believe all 3 positions are separate, meaning the lugs don't automatically connect in the middle positions. This is why the typical 3-way and 5-way switches both have the same number of lugs. You can easily disconnect the middle position for the killswitch you're talking about.

what guitar is it

if your 3 way switch is like gibsons the best way to use it as a killswitch is to lower the volume all the way on one of your pups

since it only connect the two and the middl eposition just puts the both in parralel

Could be, W4RP1G, with the 3-way blade switches. My experience is based on this:

- My Schecter Avenger (HH config) has a 3-way toggle (Gibson style) which only has 3 contacts (one from each pup, and the common leading to the volume & tone pots). I came accross all that when I retrofit it with a Sustainiac.
- My Squier was SSS, but I made it HH with Fender S-1 switching modded w/2 volumes and concentric tone--the S-1 switching uses a 5-way superswitch with 4 contacts per position. I don't recall how the original 5-way was wired, but kind of a moot point anyway since it was SSS
- I haven't been in the cavities on my other guitars, but my only other guitar with 'buckers and a blade switch is an RG-770 RI like yours. But that has a 5-way, coil splitting, and a center SC pup, so it's probably way different from TS's HH 3-way bladed Jackson, anyway.

I couldn't find a Dinky diagram online. It would be cool if TS would open the cavity, snap a photo, and post it.

@supersac, He said he has one vol pot and one tone pot. And a blade switch (not Gibson). Also, the only thing close listed in his sig is a Dinky. Actually, the Dinky he lists exactly matches his description.

i have a fairly barberic Gibson SG, i removed all of the electronics, and got two single pole single throw switches, and i wired each pickup to one, so i can turn either one on, seperately, or both on, or turn them both off and you have silence. but that is my main 'metal' guitar and i want full output and didn't need to adjust the volume or tone.
