Pit, help save Bristol Bay!
Links are at the bottom if you're too lazy to read.
America's most pure, beautiful, and untouched wilderness is now in danger! The Bristol Bay area, which has hundreds of rivers and tributaries that support thousands of fishermen and a **** ton of beautiful, diverse nature is also home to a metric assload of copper. The Pebble Mining Company is looking to harvest all that copper. And they're doing it like scumbags, which I cannot tolerate. They claimed that they would be able to contain their waste and make sure the wilderness is mostly unaffected. They released a 20,000 page report that was mostly gibberish in an attempt to bury the EPA and confuse everyone. So the EPA conducted their own study, with independent scientists, and a peer review. The results overwhelmingly proved that the mine would be an unmitigated natural disaster. Not only would waste (that has no half-life, and therefore would need to be removed) pollute EVERYTHING that it touched, but the roads and riverbeds are porous enough that the waste would spread an contaminate everything else. In addition, they found that dams that are used to corral this waste fail ABOUT EVERY SEVEN MONTHS. The Pebble Mining Company then used their massive amounts of lobbying influence to get the governor and lots of other people who don't give a **** about real problems to bitch about "government blablablablabla." And then they commissioned their rebuttal report, using people THEY PAID to review their work. Shockingly, they came to the conclusion that the EPA was wrong. Look, I'm all for developing the world. But not every part of it. And especially when over 10,000 fishermen depend on it. According to the Pebble Mining Company, they will bring 1,000 jobs.... Well, HOW THE **** CAN YOU JUSTIFY DESTROYING NATURE AND RUINING OVER 10,000 PEOPLE'S LIVELIHOOD FOR 1,000 JOBS? By being selfish assholes. As its current level, 50% of the salmon could be fished, and the environment would still sustain itself. That's a sustainable, continuous, amazing source of food, livelihood, AND GODDAM BEAUTIFUL NATURE. Sooo... Done. Although, I'm not sure how much sway it'll carry coming from New York.

Hey man, like, it's not just hippies that are affected by this, man. Like, the whole cosmic sway of the universe, man, will totally be thrown off by this, man. Also, drugs. Quote:

Not this. There's a huge old copper mine in one of the biggest areas of natural beauty in this country which has been there since the 1800s and never caused any real issue to the surrounding springs and rivers. Just get it right the first time

Guys, I didn't make the name. I could make one up, but then you wouldn't know what the **** I was talking about. It's clearly not the focus of this issue.

I don't know anything about that copper mine, but I CAN tell you that corporations don't like to get it right the first time. It tends to be more expensive than paying people off for design flaws. And the ecosystem itself is unique, because of the hundreds of rivers that can all affect each other. Pollutants can spread through the porous riverbanks (I don't know how porous your riverbanks are) and infect EVERYTHING. Plus, having a mine there would require developing more surrounding land to make roads and gas stations and stores. And more pollutants come from those.

This sounds like a Bristol Bay problem.
