Surprised how cheap they actually are. 220 for one in the UK, pretty sure that's cheaper than a PODHD.

Far cheaper than the POD HD Pro that it's most similar to form-wise. And I like how the 11R sounds quite a lot more, too.

Hey! I hope I'm asking this in the right place

I looking to pick-up a new USB interface, within the next couple of weeks. Right now I have an Alesis iO2 that has 2 inputs, and generally works great for what I want (usually just recording guitar demos)

I'm looking to upgrade to something that offers more mic inputs. I'm slowly getting my basement set-up as a rehearsal space/studio, and eventually I would like to be able to mic a full band at once, to record our sessions. We're currently using 6 mic's for the whole band, drums included, with keys and bass going d/i.

Right now, I'm looking at the Focusrite Scarlett 18i20, and the Tascam US-1800. I don't really want to spend much more then $500, which puts the Focusrite right at the top of my budget. I think the Tascam will do everything that I need, and is the cheapest decent product I've found, so I'm defiantly leaning towards it. I'm just wondering if it's worth spending the extra $$ on the focusrite. Is it that much better? Is there something else I should be looking at also?

I'm using Reaper, if that makes any difference.

Sorry for my ingorance, but I'm pretty new to the whole recording thing

Don't really know how the tascam is.
The focusrite sounds pretty bad though so I'd get the cheapest between the two.

Have you used the Focusrite? From what I've read online, people seem to think the preamps on those things rock. I was just wondering how much better they really are then the Tascam. I also stumbled on some threads of guy's having lots of minor issues with the build quality of the Tascam.

Thanks for the input. The mackie appears to be firewire only? I would prefer to use USB, since neither of my recording computers can handle firewire.

Converters in that unit are nice for the money, but the pre's sound plain bad.

Yeah I've used more than one in that range, including the big one you're thinking about

Then I'd get the tascam.

Cool. I'm gonna have to do a little more research before I make a decision. I was just breezing through the "Introduction to Recording" thread again, and noticed that it actually mentions that the pres and converters on the 18i20 is actually better sounding then the Onyx Blackbird I still can't find any bad reviews on it either.

The Focusrite pres don't sound bad AT ALL. I'm still confused as to where this notion is coming fro . They're just as good, if not better, than every other unit in its range.

From Luca, he doesn't like them and so claims it as fact.

If I took a clap and overdubbed it 100 times plus added a tiny bit of reverb, would it convincingly sound like a lot of people clapping?
