I am a huge opeth fan, and especially when it comes to the calm jazzy opeth parts. So for quite a long time now i am trying to search the massive jazz region in order to find any similar music with not so good results. What i am looking for is slow spooky melodies which are played on a guitar... I've come across very nice music which unfortunately involves only saxophone and piano... I start to believe that there is not even one band that accomplishes that absolutely amazing musical combination like opeth do.

If anyone has some related music to propose i thankfully ask him/her to do so: )

Not jazz, but check out the prog band Camel. They were a huge influence on Mikael.

I don't know about jazz in particular, but Devin Townsend's Ki is my go-to album for some dark riffs played through a clean channel.

And this might be redundant, but check out Storm Corrosion if you haven't already. It's got some of that feel here and there as well.

what an irony, i have a bunch of devin townsend's albums BUT Ki xD will check it out too.
I think i've already listened to Storm Corrosion i will check 'em out again ^^.

"Why can't I find any jazz that sounds like metal guys trying to be jazzy?"

Here's some jazz guitarists, they're not going to be 2spooky for the most part but there should at least be something along the lines of what you're looking for if you keep an open mind.

Remember, Opeth plays rock music, even when they try and sound jazzy. So don't complain when these guys don't sound like that because they're actually playing jazz.

If anything, I'd say they're trying to be prog more than they're trying to be jazz. The closest they got was "Nepenthe" on their newest album.

I'd recommend Harmonium (especially their latter two records) to any Opeth fan, as well as Comus, Van Der Graaf Generator, and King Crimson, for anyone who wants to better understand their softer music better.

They're not really spooky but one classic guitar-oriented jazz band would be Return to Forever. For modern dark jazz check out The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, and Bohren & Der Club of Gore.

I feel like jazz as a term gets thrown around way too much these days. I love Opeth but they're very far from jazz...
