Something to consider here: production. If you aren't a performing artist, you can get 90% of the effects you want (bar tone, sometimes) through production. I don't have a phaser pedal, which is why I like and use the phasers in ProTools. The same can be said for other effects. I haven't found a tremolo plugin, though .

As far as my gear, it's very simplistic. I only use a noise decimator, a tubescreamer and a delay when I want delay. Nothing else.

Quit raggin' on the guy for simplifying his rig. Maybe someone asked him a question, or offered advice and he liked it? I wouldn't just assume the guy gave in to peer pressure and simplified his rig to seem cool to someone. He got a perspective, liked it, made a change, and how he's happier.

And talk boxes are cool... if you're 70 :p

Talk box is the best and should be in every song.
Yes, I know everything. No, I can't play worth a damn.

I certainly wouldn't get rid of what you have and like right now. Can always unplug it and put in the closet for a while, get back to the basics for however long it takes to get that feeling out of your system lol. I frequently just sit down with an acoustic or just guitar-cable-amp. It always humbles me when I realize the effects really do cover up a lot sometimes.

I have nothing against someone wanting to simplify his rig. It just ain't me at this point in my life. MOAR pedals!
