As I stated before, I'd probably go the Fernandes route. I've got two Fernandes Ravelles already, and am considering a third. Their necks are slender, though not so skinny as some Ibanez necks are. Build quality seems consistent across their production line. I'm not a fan of Vs- I think they're cool, but uncomfortable- but I'd expect theirs to be pretty good. If I were to buy a V, theirs would be on my short list (after the Reverend Volcano and the DBZ Cavallo).

That said, you probsbly couldn't go wrong with the ESPs, Schecters or Ibanez on your list, either.

I think the Aria will probably give you the most bang for your buck. Will reply further when I'm at my computer.

First concerns are the obvious ones:

1) how does the neck feel?

2) is the body comfortable?

3) are there any obvious visual problems with the fit & finish- is the neck straight or does it bow, chips, gaps, sharp fret ends, tuning stability, etc.?

THEN you start concerning yourself with how the thing sounds:

4) what does it sound like plugged in?

5) are there any noises when switching between pickups or changing the volume, tone and other knobs?

Yamaha Pacifica, Godin, Gretsch, Squier Classic Vibe/Vintage Modified and Ibanez are known for making cheap guitars at a pretty high decent level of quality.

The Ibanez is the best value of the ones listed. You might also want to look at the Jackson JS series. Both the Jackson JS22 and JS23 have really nice necks in my opinion.

Gotta agree about the low end BC Rich they're pretty much rubbish
