There's people who actually prefer to not lock on.

I lock on to everything, excect for a few in DS1, but in ds2 there's morelock on points, like legs.

The big point about locking on is that it's better not to for most things in DS1.

I've said it like 1000 times in here, but in DS1 you can only roll in 4 directions while locked on, while in DS2 you can roll anywhere while locked on.

I guess the ideal way to play DS1 would be to learn how to quickly unlock to roll then lock back on.

I tried not locking on in ds1 for pvp and it's near impossible because of how the rolls work. Pve seems to work fine.

For ds2 i dominate in pvp and pve without lockon. Other players have no idea what you're doing and they usually think you're just fuccking about when in reality i'm rolling under your attack to fish for a bs and then cut you down.

I more or less roll when they roll the direction they roll so they can't put any distance between us. Some kind of infighting technique I guess. If they turn to run after their roll and your following roll, you just back stab them there.

I keep seeing people say this is a thing that DS2 does better (the rolling direction thing), but I've NEVER had an issue with it in DS1. I beat the game SL1 and have not had 1 single problem with the rolling "limitation".

Beat the Fume knight without starting a new game. So I'm doing all 3 DLC's first on NG+++.

I think I might be able to do a SL 1 run on DS2, but I really could not do it on DS 1.
