Will this sound any good
Hi, I'm currently looking for a way to do some basic but good quality recordings and also have a way to play at night when amp has to be off, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Alesis-Guit...C6/ref=pd_ybh_2 are these any good or do they sound like crap?
I currently can't afford an interface however I do plan to get one in the future although if you find any good ones going cheap on ebay uk (under £30) then tell me. Also for when i do get an interface, what mic sounds best on an ac30? |

That's a terrible idea, don't buy it.
We have an interfaces sticky for a reason, it provides recommendations at all price ranges. Unfortunately, the price range you're looking at will not provide anything at good quality. Your best bet would be to read the sticky and save your money until you can afford to buy the proper equipment.

For under £10, it does the job perfectly well, highly recommended.

Does that thing in the OP even have an A/D converter anywhere?
If an interface is good, it should work with any recording program via ASIO, which is free software. There should be instructions on setting that up in the manual; it's easy and works on both PCs and Macs. You could probably get it to work on Linux too, but someone else can test that. Quote:
The "for under £10" part makes me really skeptical.

I bought the same thing but for MIDI to USB like a few years ago. Paid $5, and basically it would die about halfway through playing or just freeze the midi data. If their guitar cable is anything like the MIDI to USB, I'd avoid it like the fat chick eyeing you from across the bar

Not to be an arse, but have any of you actually used one?
They're just an OEM unbranded version of the Behringer Guitar Link (they use the Behringer drivers, just in case you needed proof). For guitar and bass tracking they do a good job, more than good enough for amateur recording. Nothing special, and pretty limited, but the sound quality and latency is fine. I've used one of those little £9 buggers on a couple of recordings which got radio play, and no-one seemed to mind.....

I didn't say you can't use them, I just don't believe you can say something works "perfectly well" and is "highly recommended", when you later have to admit they're "nothing special and pretty limited".
If it's all someone can afford, then fine, I just thought you were talking it up a bit too much making it sound better than it really is ![]()

Thing is, I think for £10 they're a really fantastic bit of kit, and most guitarists should have them. For £30 or whatever the proper Behringer guitar link costs, I'd say save your money and get a used interface. But for the price of a few pints you really can't go wrong.
