i dunno about dimebuckers, but i did the 250K to 500K volume pot mod on a '72 RI and it was totally worth it. opened up the guitar quite well.

To the guy talking about the Tweaker 15, I seriously doubt that amp has any clean headroom when at gig volumes. The Tweaker would be a decent option, but not the 15 watt one.

Thanks guys!! I checked out a demo of a classic player jazzmaster special, and I really liked the tone. Very jangly. I have really big hands, but I would still prefer a shorter scale neck. I also played a squier surf strat that I really liked. And I have been looking at the pawn shop mustang fro awhile. I think it's down to those three guitars. And after further research, I have seen that many of the bands I listen to use an AC30, so I will deffinitely be seriously looking into one of those, maybe even before I buy the guitar

I am thinking that it will most likely be the lipstick surf strat. The only thing is, should I really be passing up several $600-900 fender guitars for a funky $300 squier guitar?
Although, they did release an american standard version. maybe that will go down in price...
