Best Pickup in basswood body?
Hello,
I want to buy a Seymour Duncan - SH-12b bridge, beacause i like the sound of it, but my guitar is Ibanez grg270b, it´s a basswood body, i´m affraid gets too thin, tinny. Like i read in some reviews Is there anyone tried this pickup before? on a cheap guitar. Or what advise would you give. os a similar sound like the SH-12b Thanks |

My LNG is basswood; it just goes to show that just because a guitar is made of basswood, it doesn't mean it's cheap or inferior. The SH12 is a strange pickup. Have you played one for yourself? The name really makes it sound like something it's not.

If you want sustain and brighter/less mud in your sound, got to ask first, what amp you running through?

If sustain is what you're after then you'd either go for an active pickup or a PAF copy; a pickup like the Super Distortion has a stronger magnetic feld, which shortens sustain.
But sustain really comes from the build of the guitar, and that is where we hit the most important point: Not all basswood is the same. When people talk about basswood's tone for shredding and how soft it is and the weight and everything else, they're talking about good quality, comparatively expensive basswood. The basswood you get in cheaper, standard production guitars is very different in all regards, tone included. OP, if you like the idea of the Screamin' Demon but are worried it will sound thin (and it will), try the SD 59/Custom Hybrid. It's basically the same thing, but thick- and smoother-sounding (and cheaper, since it isn't a signature pickup).
