Intae that, but I'm looking for something with good traditional songwriting as well as those motorik vibes. Essentially this but heavier.

Those are pretty well known though, just ask if you want some more and I would have no trouble getting some more.

I'm already super familiar with Ereb Altor and Grand Magus especially. The solo on By Honour is almost exactly what I had in mind, and Grand Magus enters that kind of territory frequently with their stuff.

Will be checking out the other three asap. Always meant to listen to Arghoslent, just never gotten around to it. Gotta say, given the kind of metal they play, I never expected to see anything like them crop up in response. Looking forward to it tbh.

hi john

the following bands are good and have politics listed under 'lyrical themes' on metal archives - personally i don't seek out politics in music so i've got no idea how political/what kind of political they actually are

rottrevore
nausea (from LA, US)

mercyless
atheist
brutal truth
necrobutcher
terrorizer
immolation

carcass
protector (germany)
napalm death

i bolded my favourites.

i think you would have better luck looking at grindcore. political messages are more a staple in that genre than in death metal, however grindcore played a big role in the development of death metal, so it can sound quite similar. i would be surprised if someone who was a big fan of death metal wouldn't be able to find a lot of grindcore they liked too

how new are you to death metal? some of the bands i listed might not be very accessible to someone who is quite new, due to style/production quality (protector, necrobutcher). i pretty much don't listen to any kind of death metal that is not in the old school style so if you are looking for tech/brutal/whatever i can't really help

Steve DiGorgio plays on a five string bass if I recall, so that's two points for Jon

Should have mentioned it doesn't have to be metal. You're all pretty well-rounded fellas here.

I think it was the 4 string fretless, you are definitely right. He plays his five string now in whatever he's up to.
