Sustain.. good or bad?
ive been playing for a few years now.. and ive got 2 guitars.. ibanez and les paul.. and recently the ibanez has lost some sustain.. do you think sustain is all that important and needs to be fixed?

sustain can be controlled, if you have sustain, you can decide if you sustain the notes or not... if you dont, then youre pretty much screwed...
AND a Les Paul should have more sustain than your Ibanez. sustain is a must! |

Old strings on the Ibanez?
Also, try lowering the neck pickup if it's close to the strings. |

If you want sustain then sustain is important. If you do not want sustain, the sustain is not important.

sustain is generally set up at your amp or if running a loop at the pedal, most guitar only have volume and tone knobs, but its how long the note or notes resonate without being played again. It is good if you are doing this appropriately.

What? Sustain has so much more to do with your guitar than your amp... |

Do you like the way it sounds? Then don't change it! If you don't, then do. Also I can't imagine how a guitar can just "lose" sustain.

Sustain....BAD!!!! Fire.....GOOOD!!!
Seriously though, unless shit is fretting out or buzzing horribly its all preference. My strat doesn't have a ton of sustain, but I've never found that to bother me.

Pup and amp setting are more important than guitar or body type. New strings obviously better. Even clean I can get very long sustain, with gain I can hold it as long as I want pretty much with a bit of vibrato. I have a prestige with evos, both the neck and B pup sustain great.
