Alder vs. Basswood?

Hey guys, finally decided that I'm going to build an Explorer, and was wondering a few things. Should I use Alder or Basswood for my body? I'm most likely going to use passive Dimarzios in my bridge and neck, and I play rock and metal.

Thanks

People will tell you basswood is fine. I always disagree.l It is so soft, you can just break it or dent it with your hands. I would go alder all the way.

It depends on the finish you plan on putting on it, ive built 3 basswood guitars, with hard poly and/or nitro finishes, and they sound fine, and are alot lighter than alder. but if you plan to do an oil finish, or something like that, go with alder, because like Explorerbuilder said, it's a denser wood.
