Tonally, besides the MiJ brands, look at Godin, Hagstrom, Electra, and, to a lesser extent, Gretsch.

Also, if you can, try out as many of the guitars as you can so you can really figure out what you like and what is out there. I know selections tend to be limited depending on your location but it really helps to try out as many guitars as you can so you can develop a preference and be able to distinguish what you like from what you don't much quicker so your guitar options pool isnt as big.

If you have a lot of options, to me that really screams that you don't quite have a preference beyond "thicker Les Paul sounds" and it being a single cut. If you could narrow your options down, it would be easier to give you proper advice about where to look and what to check out.

And honestly, some of the Tele-clone G&L tribute models will deliver the same type of tone as you seek. Example:

I don't see why Orville is seperate to "lawsuit era" copies (an erroneous term in the first place considering most of the good MIJ guitars were made post Ibanez lawsuit) or Tokai for the matter. I also don't understand why something like Orville would have a little snippet from the list but they omitted Tokai (arguably the most famous MIJ clones)

They aren't really going through many of the differences either. Just listing a few different single cut guitars that aren't done by Gibson.

I get a pretty big "copy recommended guitars that people recommend from forums" vibe from that article.

I mean it probably means well and I'm probably overthinking it but I personally think it was kind of meh in terms of what that list is supposed to be. As in "10 LP clones that even purists would consider" I could count maybe 2 guitars on that list that "even purists would consider"

Sorry to rant.

Ibanez Super 58's > Gibson Classic 57's. Thoughts?

Like the old 58s or the ones that come in some of the current models?

Duh I'm such a dumbass. I played a gig at the weekend and forgot I had the amp sims on my multi-fx switched on, so I was simulating an overdriven Dual Recto into my already overdriven Mini Recto. The softer ballad songs were not that, and no wonder why I was getting feedback like crazy at times

Coulda done with a chunky solid mahogany guitar with a coupla humbuckers. Do they exist?

If not:

Electra Omega & Omega Prime

Fernandes uses mahogany in many of their guitars:

And, of course, all Reverends are made with korina...
