Differentiate each one separately and then sum them up.

I thought the x^2 and the 3 would still need divided by x+1 after that Jam... Or am I wrong?

Wait, was it all in a fraction? I assumed it was (x^2) + (3x) + (3/x) + 1 because that's the conventional order of operations.

Jam assumed it was (x^2) + (3x+3)/(x+1).

I'm guessing it's (x^2+3x+3)/(x+1) ?

(x^2+3x+3)*(x+1)^(-1)

Now use product rule along with chain rule. Do you know how to do that?

It's quotient rule isn't it? I think I'm getting confused because I missed a bit in class with the x^2 being on top, I think I got it now though.

Yeah you can use quotient rule but I forgot that rule and usually just move the fraction up like I did. One less thing to remember.

It also helps to have somewhat of an understanding of what's going on then just following a rule in case you make a small mistake in remembering or reading the rule.
