I've found that I generally don't like American Oktoberfest beers. Drinking the Ninkasi one right now. It's eh

Also, best pumpkin beer I've had is the Rogue Pumpkin Patch Ale

Have you had the one from Great Lakes? I think it's one of the best American examples.

I haven't, never even seen it actually. I've only really tried a few -- Ninkasi, Leinenkugel, and Sam Adams. Sam Adams is my favorite so far, surprisingly.

I can't remember my favorite German offering... it was Ayinger, but then I had another one that surpassed it. Can't remember

I definitely wouldn't judge American versions by the Leinenkugel or SA offerings. Neither is anything special. I can't speak for the Ninkasi as I've never tried it. I rarely see their beers here.

Weyerbacher's Merry Monks is the greatest fermented beverage in existence.

Are you serious?

Their Aventinus is one of the best beers in the world. Unquestionably

I don't know if it's popular outside of Europe

I've only ever had the original. I like it because it tastes good, but hate it because it's essentially just like drinking creame soda so I can really put them away without realizing it.

So I'm going to brew my next beer (my second ever) somewhat soon, hopefully, and I think I'm going to modify a couple of saison recipes with a couple of my own tweaks. Going to malt-en it a bit by using munich malt extract for a fifth of the malts, and use Willamette, Chinook, and Cascade hops. I'm looking for a final saison that's maltier than most, and while still freshly hoppy, on the lower side of some other commercial saisons I've had.

Using BeerSmith. Looking for an ABV of 6-7%
