God, I love Stanton. Thankfully it doesn't seem like there is any serious damage, just some fractures and missing teeth.

Shame he probably won't be in any shape to clinch MVP though, at this point Kershaw should run away with that honor.

Worth noting that, to my understanding, amphetamines wouldn't impact power, and help with long term fatigue, hence why it's 25 instead of the 80 for PEDs. Considering his average has increased six points recently, I'm going to guess it was a panic move because of the awful year.

Can't pretend I'm not disappointed, or that I'm not questioning the 2013 season a little bit now. Maybe I'm looking at it through rosey lenses because he was such a nice guy when I met him, but I want to believe this was just a one time panic move.

Edit: Davis is saying that it was Adderall, and that he forgot to renew his medical exemption. It's boneheaded if it's true, but he did have that exemption last year, and forgetting important things would fit with someone who needs Adderall.

I think suspensions are stupid for things like that. If you previously had the exemption and forgot to renew it, you should just be fined rather suspended IMO.

Won't have his chance to make his case to be the clear favorite but you can definitely still make the argument. That said, it's gonna be hard to beat Kershaw.

I don't like pitchers as MVPs. Kershaw's having an amazing season and should get Cy Young no doubt. I still don't like the idea of giving the award to a player who has no impact in 80% of games played. That being said, if there was ever a pitcher who deserved the award, it's Kershaw this year. Dodgers would probably be 4 or 5 games above .500 without him.

The way I look at it with pitchers is that they see a lot of batters in the games they play in though. Like a batter plays everyday, but he will only be at the plate 3-5 times. A pitcher only plays once every five games but he's most likely facing 25+ batters in that game. So yea, the pitcher only impacts 20% of games, but he can have a gigantic influence on those games. Which is what Kershaw does

Idk, myabe this is a really dumb way of thinking about it

I can't stand this argument. Yeah they only play every five days, but on that day they can control the entire game. A pitcher as dominant as Kershaw can single handedly give you ten wins because of how unhittable they are. I'll take that every five days.

Was going to say this. Kershaw has faced 662 batters this year. NL leader in plate appearances is Matt Carpenter with 653.

Yes, but a great pitcher will give a team an opportunity to win every time they start, and if that's not considered valuable then I don't know what is. Kershaw has an ERA of 1.67 on the season, or in other words he's given up fewer than 2 earned runs per 9 innings pitched. He has given up more than 3 ER in just one start: 7 ER in 1.2 IP on 5/17. And it's not just the standard stats either, the advanced ones are crazy too.

^That's why I said if any pitcher deserves it, it's Kershaw.

Damn. Oakland just lost again tonight to Seattle. They're only .5 games up in the AL WC. I don't see them even making the postseason.

Giants are up 9-0 in the bottom of the 8th right now. Should be 1 out of the west after today's game. Ryu out after a 4 run 1st inning with shoulder irritation. Don't know if it will affect the rest of his starts.

ESPN's commentators saying that it's not really the postseason without the Yankees because they're "that team you have to go through to get to the world series".

Goddamn Kershaw and Greinke. I can understand why Bochy didn't want to adjust the rotation to face them over the weekend, but with Peavy pitching rather than Petit on Sunday, there's a good chance we could have beat Kershaw. Peavy has been an absolute beast lately, and Petit didn't pitch a bad game, but it wasn't enough. Now the Dodgers' magic number is down to 11, when we could potentially be sitting one game back.
