Sorry, the ET's are extremely vulnerable to high-volume sonic assault, but their EMP weapons render solid-state electronics useless, so only the Full-Stack Tube Army can save the world!!

And no, UTA isn't really on my radar. UTD is better, at least for engineering, and I know for sure that we've got ties with all of the big telecom companies (though that's really not what I want to do), plus all of the semiconductor companies throughout the state (which might be what I want to do). UT Austin's engineering grad program is ranked 10 in the country though, and is only $9k/year and is in Austin, so really that's where I want to end up. Only way I'd be willing to pay more is to get out to Cali, and I'd need some sort of fellowship money to make that worth it.

Plus AFAIK, you can't do part of your grad program at one school and finish it at another, unless you do your master's coursework at one place and get your degree there, then do your PhD stuff somewhere else.

Most grad students in EE work under a fellowship that covers the cost of going to school, plus pays monthly stipend. Cost probably doesn't need to factor into the equation.

EDIT: oh yeah we got a nikon d3300... it was pretty much a 50:50 between it and the canon eos100d (rebel sl1 or whatever it is in the US). In the end we figured we'd go with the more recent one since on paper its spec seemed better. That's probably silly but our local Currys didn't have the 3300 to check out so

also it's frigging roasting here. it's been around 80F for the past few days (28C today). our usual trolling weather, 95% of the time it's horrible, the other 5% it's actually too nice.

Supposed to drop to 18C tomorrow. So that's probably summer over, we got 4 days of it.

Which actually is better than the summers between 2006 and 2012 I don't think the temp went over 25C those years.

i'm guessing you mean the matt from here? i think he has the same screen name here as there, so that's someone else.

still massive LULZ, though. the thread was actually closed earlier before that was posted, it must have been opened again but now seems to be closed again.

but yeah it appears to be crazy. and the defenders are still defending...

haven't had pringles in ages...

And tell him he is a lying piece of shit, but I didn't feel like getting banned.
How would you disturb a wave soldered joint when the part was put in by hand?
There is just so much BS just in that one statement.

LOL, wow.

I dunno. I've heard that's definitely the case for PhD (especially at schools like UT Austin/UC Berkeley/Stanford, where something like 99% of PhD students don't pay a dime out of pocket), but for master's it's a bit harder to get funding. And I dunno if I want to commit to the full PhD program yet. Ideally, I'd do the PhD, but I am starting to get a bit restless in school, and I'm not sure if my enthusiasm will carry me through a 5 or so year program.

EDIT: 311's not the only one who got confused if he did. I got two PMs from different people thanking me for degooping my Axis wah and one angry one, and that was some other guy.

EDIT: holy crap, 5 years for a phd? it's 3 years here. and i didn't even manage to stick that So i sympathise. If you're already getting restless, that's not a great sign (I wasn't before I started). Of course, you're totally different from me so that might not affect you the way it affected me.

Also going back to the more important stuff, what annoys me about those TGP threads is how the fanboys act like anyone who doesn't take what the flavour of the month builder says as gospel is "speculating". You have people (not me) who actually know about electronics saying things that are anything but speculation, they're the ones who are speculating with absolutely no clue about what they're talking about.

He was raging because he realized he was too stupid to pay 4-5X what his stuff was worth. I feel sorry for the poor sap.

For the most part around here, all students (Masters and PhDs) get funding, it's just that PhD students are accepted with priority because of limited funding.

So are ATH-M50s good headphones for a Pod? My brother has a pair and they sound great, but I heard you need high impedance (~200 ohm) headphones for good tones.

There are people who take nearly a decade. I think the quickest you could (theoretically) do it is 3 years, but not many do it that fast. I think average across the country and all programs is 5.5 years.

I dunno if the restless thing will affect me or not during a PhD, especially because I'll actually have times for internships and will be doing research the rest of the year. My restlessness mostly stems from feeling like I'm just not doing anything important in the grand scheme of things.

You wanna see something funny? Check out that ~ufo guy's posts in the Vertex threads trashing him for using the BBE and saying they sound exactly the same. Then look at his posts in the Caveman threads trashing everyone who says it's an OCD because the two "sound nothing alike". The double think is impressive.

I dunno then. I've got a meeting with a UT Austin graduate adviser once the summer semester ends, so I guess I'll add it to my list of questions. I'd love to spend a few years out in Cali, so I'll add it to my list of questions to send to the advisers I've been in contact with out there too.
