About Old School Metal.
Heyy Guys.I am a guitarist..started out a year back..been doing covers of Lamb of God,As I lay Dying,A7x,Pantera and stuff.I can do pinch harmonics, little bit of shredding,no tapping or sweeping.I want to evolve and progress as a good metal guitarist now.I am mostly into old school heavy metal(Grunge,Groove,Heavy metal) and melodic death metal. How should I be practicing and what techniques, scales and modes should I learn to progress ahead? Also could you tell me which Bands should I listen to so as to get their musical influences?

Groove Metal doesn't even exist either... it was a term invented by the NWOAHM bands like LoG and Chimera so that they weren't associated with modern Nu-Metalcore... even though they are just Nu-Metalcore.
Even then the term only came around less than 10 years ago... not exactly "old school".
