I'm sad to say I agree with you VG. I listened to the album multiple times hoping that I just needed to listen more to appreciate all of the subtitles; alas, this was not the case.

I'm really enjoying the new album and my enjoyment seems to only grow with each listen.

The opener has incredible restrained atmosphere. The following interlude is less effective, but man when The Astral Dialogue kicks in with the bass guitar that sounds like a mountain crumbling away... It's awesome.

I, for one, welcome The Serpent & the Sphere into Agalloch's oeuvre with open arms.

I'm going to keep giving it listening time. It is not offensive to my ears, it just hasn't taken hold of me.

I'm with Kep on this one. It's not without flaws, but I feel a lot of spirit behind it so I can forgive some composition problems. Probably helped by the fact that I binged on Twin Peaks for the last few weeks; for some reason A's music and TP go together really well for me

It recently struck me that much of Agalloch's career has been a reproduction of Ulver's Bergtatt.

I am enjoying most of the new album, it is by no means the best they have put out but I feel it is better than Marrow.

That thing that starts at about 2:35 in Celestial Effigy is the best thing about The Serpent & The Sphere, which has remained quite an average listen.

Or at least a significant amount of Agalloch's best work. Doesn't detract from it at all though. Pale Folklore is the best version of Bergtatt ever and triumphs Ulver's incredible album in its own right.

No. I have nothing more to contribute.

I hold both in equal regard, but have a personal connection with Pale Folklore that gives it some emotional heft.

This Old Cabin is also stellar.

Alright, I need help guys. I figured out the first part of Birch White with no dramas, but the second part starting around 26 seconds is doing my head in. I'm using a crappy guitar that isn't helping with the sound, so I ask for your help, oh wise guitarists of UG.

Err it's alternating G and B minor chords for the verse, and the chorus was A minor, C, E minor.

Pretty sure that's all there is to it. Occasionally an F# minor chord pops up in the verse and I just play E5 to F5 for the post chorus bit.
