Can someone get maybe an August Burns Red/Metalcore type in general setting? August Burns Red is one of my main influences for guitar and would love a similar setting. All I got is a simple MG 30 watt Marshall amp. Can't afford the bigger stuff. :P Kinda sucks but eh. I got some good guitars at least. Modded Douglas Spad Pro with EMG 81/85 pickups and an old Schecter C-1 Limited guitar with the same pickups but that will soon be my main guitar after I get some new tuning machines and strings on. Thanks for any amp setting info on that. =] I mostly play in drop c# or drop c.

^ I hate to be that guy but you are just not going to get a good metalcore tone with a MG30. You say you can't afford the bigger stuff but you have two good guitars and one is getting new tuners. How much do you think your guitars are worth? Also, it was my understanding that active pickups do not get along with the MGs.

My suggestion is to get something like a Peavey Vypyr 60. I got mine for $300 used and it can definitely do MetalCore.

Barring that, I would just put all of the knobs on 12 noon and adjust from there

^ I second that.

I used to own an MG30, and it just couldn't do metal.
I suggest selling it, I sold mine for something like 100, I was in a hurry and it had a scratchy pot, so I guess you could get $150 if not $200 from it.

Then, the vypyr tube 60 is a nice idea imo, or you could get a jet city 22w combo + a serious boost.

In any case, amps matter a lot more than guitars for that, so I'd say it'd be better saving up for a new and bigger amp instead of keeping getting and/or upgrading guitars which will not sound much good with that amp in any case.

I get a nice metalcore sound by turning up my mids and turning down the bass a lot. The treble just stays in the middle. DONT turn up the gain. Your distortion will also have a lot to do with your tone. Adjust your distortion accordingly or buy a specific distortion pedal

Can someone post settings for both underoath guitarist tone as well as the bassist' tone (on the 'they're only chasing safety' album)?

Hello, guys I'm fairly new to electric guitar world. Been playing acoustics mostly. Now I bought a used spider line 6 212 simply cause it was really cheap. I own a gretsch guitar also, holow body, I'm trying to mimic Chet Atkins finger picking the way his songs sounded. And I can't really get the grasp on the amp of it. Any idea how to make settings to mimic chet atkins or merle travis sounds on the amp ?

I know the core of their sound was from their fingers ofcourse. Also I think Chet used in his nasvhille style, thicker strings for bass tones.

Regards

Honestly, you might have a hard time getting tones like that considering your amp. For Chet tones, what you can try is run the cleanest setting on the amp (probably something like clean red) and then splash on a little bit of reverb. I would also recommend rolling down the volume knob on your guitar to clean up the sound or you could also roll down the 'channel vol' and 'drive' on the patch and achieve similar results. You can then use the 'master' on the amp to compensate for the loss of volume.

Also, roll down the tone knob on your pickups to really get into the jazz-y territory. I wouldn't roll it off all the way, but that's up to taste.

For the Merle tones, I would maybe start on the twang settings and play around with what I mentioned above and see if you can get close. I would keep the tone knob up a bit more for Merle since I find he has a much brighter tone.

It probably won't be spot on but it'll be usable. Good luck
