Just out of curiosity, why 12/8 instead of just swung 8ths?

Swung 8ths? Do you mean triplets? Swung 8ths is quite a different feel to triplets. Most blues is triplets Whereas a lot of jazz is swung 8ths. Playing the 1st and 3rd triplet isn't swing either (or if it is it's bad swing!) Quick answer to your question, it's a lot easier to write 8ths in 12/8 than triplets in 4/4 ![]()
