NGD: Active pickups and a Bigsby? (LTD EC330FM)

...I suppose that's the question you're asking, or at least the question you will be asking.

After being inspired by a guy who modded his blue LP Studio with black hardware and a black Bigsby B700, I decided I'd do something similar, yet unique at the same time.

I went for the LTD EC-330FM in blue, since it looked like one of the better options at the €400 price point for what I wanted to do, and it's pretty unique as the flamed maple 330s seem to be brand new in Thomann. The 330 series weren't meant to be suited for metal due to the relatively low output, but I was fine with that.

So it arrived this morning, and my first impressions were pretty good.

The guitar was perfectly set up and intonated out of the box. The clean sound from the ESP active pickups was better than any of my other guitars, which was surprising. It sounded a lot more crisp and clear, especially in either the middle position or the bridge position. Turning up the gain, I could understand why people weren't happy with the pickups, as they seem to lack a bit of clarity when playing through high gain. However, I'm more than happy with the clean sound alone.

Just an hour or two ago, I had someone call over to install the black Bigsby B700 that I had ordered previously. After the mod, it retained its clear sound, and had the added effect whenever I needed it. Oh, and it looks awesome in my opinion. I might have to change the bridge and knobs to black to make them fit in, but I'll wait and see.

I considered getting pickups for it before it arrived, but after hearing its clean sound, I'm not sure if I need to change. Surely something like EMG 57/66s or the JH set would work? I'd appreciate advice on this one.

That looks awesome! Never thought a Bigsby on a modern style axe would look so good.

The 330s look amazing. It's really a shame about the bolt on heel.

It doesn't really bother me that much. Still, thanks for the input on my other thread.

Now, before I order this, can someone tell me if this would be a worthy bridge replacement? http://www.ebay.ie/itm/High-Quality...=item1c26839c06
