My biggest question is how she spoke the Doctor's name and got a response. She's attuned to the TARDIS but there's way too many questions. Moffat has started doing this. Create a shitload of questions so some of them can be answered in one big revelation. I feel like John Hurt could get a spin off or they'll use him later. A Time War season or something with Hurt while they decide where to go. I've seen in articles about the Doctor only having twelve regenerations. Where is this even stated? I don't remember it being in the show. If it isn't stated in the show then it shouldn't be observed at this point.

Got it. show
Also, 12 regenerations is stated during the show for both Troughton and Davidson's eras.

But another number is stated isn't it? Like 503.
Which TARDIS explosion are you referring to?

Pandorica. Quote:
The Master was in Tennant's time, River's regenerations were in Smith's. It isn't hinted, and it isn't the case. It's mentioned repeatedly that it is possible that get other regenerations, but it is more than just frowned upon. It is one of the highest forms of Treason and crime against the soul of a Timelord. It is, in fact, the only reason The Master is considered a villain.

Given how long this show has been running, it's very easy to get mixed up. I want to see Davros next series.

I'll have to rewatch it. I just read about the Valeyard and how he tried to get The Doctor's regenerations. More Davros would be cool. I always wanted to see the girl from The Doctor's Daughter again (Tennant's wife?). She's technically a Time Lord/Lady.

Nope it wouldn't make sense for it to be pandorica since we specifically hear a voice saying silence will fall.

Woo, finally caught up on this season. Overall, not too bad, but the fact that I forgot to watch the Christmas special made a few things a bit confusing. John Hurt as the Time War version of the Doctor definitely seems interesting, and I have a feeling that they will definitely revisit that to some extent with the 50th anniversary special. The whole thing with Clara was pretty interesting, she wasn't a phenomenal character, but her role in the Doctor's life as a means to counter the GI was nifty. But they definitely should have set up the GI and the Whispermen more, they just seemed like villains for the sake of villains.

So this John Hurt Doctor is probably the one responsible for ending the Time War, yeah?

I just read through the last page or so properly and wanted to give my opinion on the whole John Hurt thing.
show
Also, I don't remember what episode it was, but the Doctor said he had been using the Tardis for (I think) 900 years. How old was he supposed to be when he stole it? This kind of led me to the idea that this might be in the gap between leaving Amy and Rory and when he "died" in The Impossible Astronaut, but that can't be right. Maybe this is where he gets The (Oncoming) Storm title.

It's been roughly established that the Doctor was around 200 when he stole the TARDIS. This comes from not only some classic Doctor age references, but Tennant and Smith's Doctors both referring to "700 years of time and space" while they were supposed to be 900, and then Smith refering to "900 years of time travel" while he's supposed to be 1100/1200 years old. However, given Hurt's introduction.... Eep. Oh and the regeneration limit is a part of their biology. They can subvert it, since Timelord's have the technology to do practically ANYTHING, but with Gallifrey gone, it'll be interesting to see how the Doctor could possibly change his own biology enough to give him more regenerations.
The thing for me is keeping everything in the show in line with my own theories, as I'm sure everyone else is struggling with atm. As much as I like the idea of Hurt being the "real 9th Doctor", I'm also reminded so much of Armin Tamzarian from The Simpsons... A big reveal that a character isn't who they said they were, and all of a sudden it's either deus ex machina time, or just forcing everyone to learn to move everything forward by one. Colohue's idea that since Tennant used up one on his hand, thereby leaving Smith as technically the 13th is an idea that I LOVE, as it would give Smith the chance to show off that pseudo-Valeyard side of him we've only seen in episodes like Amy's Choice and Nightmare in Silver. He does "evil" so well, I want to see him really flirting with darkness, because in his heart he believes that his presence in the universe is a end worth any means. And besides, they can reintroduce Time Lord technology (if not the people and planet) at any time, all it would take is a weird machine to "appear" and all of a sudden, boom, new regeneration cycle. As long as it's handled well, it could be Moffat's saving grace. Quote:
I love that spoiler idea explanation. I mean, still leaves open way too many questions, but as a hand waving "hey at least it was explained" answer, I love it.

I don't think there will be significance in his hand regeneration.
What is your thoughts on River's Regeneration sacrifice, the idea that it gave him an extra couple 1up's?

I don't think so. River wasn't made on Gallifrey with actual Time Lords. There's no telling how many she has. She had used at least three. Remember that Smith used some of his energy to heal her broken wrist. Using the energy on someone else doesn't necessarily give them the energy to store. I also considered the hand ordeal as a possible path to the Valeyard.

Pretty sure there's a comic that also took the idea of the hand-made Doctor becoming the Valeyard but it turned out to be all one big illusion. Mind parasite and what not. I'm down for it, as it's practically a ready made story arc they've never addressed

any mention of the hand would give them an excuse to rope Barrowman back in
