an 85 1.4 is very much a portrait lens, if you go that way don't expect much crossover in the way of macro photography

Oh really? I thought the main use for that would have been macro, my bad. I'll definitely look into the two you mentioned then.

Right-o, after some digging, I think the Tokina is definitely a goer in the near future.

yeah, 85mm is more or less a portrait lens.

for future reference just having a longer lens isn't enough, it's about minimum focus distance as well. Macro lenses let you hold your camera like 5 cm away from something as opposed to like 1-2 metres.

Right, I'll bear that in mind, cheers. I thought you could get in right close with the 85 for some reason but I suppose not.

I'm pretty dead set on the Tokina now, been watching a few reviews and I prefer what I've seen to the Nikon 60. So in about half a years time, my setup should be:

Nikon D7200
Nikkor 35 1.8
Nikkor 70-300 VR
Tokina 100 2.8

Setting me back about 800 after selling off old gear, even less if I sell off a few guitars and shit. All that's really missing from that is a wide lens I guess.

Just installed Magic Lantern firmware on my 700D. As much as I liked all the extra features, I couldn't get on too well with the ML menu.

Ah well, at least I gave it a shot.
