Kinda want to grab a D750 next year after I've had more time to learn some stuff, but lenses are so expensive. The D700 body is like, almost half the price but it's old uuuugh decisions

Also messing around with the idea of buying a nice iMac. Materialism will be the death of me.

So even though your old camera is 8x vs 30x, if it doesn't go nearly as wide it might not actually be that different at the tele end (which is some more terminology, wide angle = wider than your natural field of vision, standard = similar to your natural field of vision, telephoto = narrower than your natural field of vision, or effectively "zoomed in") (note that it's also possible to have a telephoto lens that doesn't zoom, like the tokina I mentioned earlier).

Thanks. Yeah that's a good point. I was sort of looking at the max mm amount (i.e. 300mm gets you closer, as you said), so I think I (sort of, vaguely) understood what I was talking about, just phrased it badly.

I can get closer with my old point-and-click digital camera (which claims to have 8x zoom) than with my current 18-55mm kit lens on the D3300. That's what I meant.

Got a side gig with an architecture firm. I'm doing shots for their website. $100 per building. Not bad.
