EDIT:In fact they showed off a production prototype with a wenge fretboard.

Doesn't purpleheart only turn quickly if exposed to a lot of sunlight though? Wenge would work too though, I'd be down for that.

Personally, I'd love a passive singlecut GSR.

It's probably just a cost/benefit things. Headless basses and fanned frets likely won't sell in the volumes they want/need out of inexpensive basses.

I'd like to see more veneers maybe. Then we could have more basswood and agathis basses that aren't just black, blue, and red.

Sunlight, fluorescent, and CFLs cause that browning due to UV radiation.

Although the latter two take at least 2-3 years for you to see any of browning.

EDIT:Bloodwood would have better since it doesn't fade to a dull brown like purpleheart.

I live in Seattle, I'm sure it'd be pretty safe out here too. There's only a few days a year you'd actually have to protect it from the mysterious ball of fire in the sky.

All I'm gathering is that the best way to preserve all the beautiful purpleheart is to keep it locked up in a case in a dark closet and every once in a while longingly look its way and imagine how purple it still is.

That's reality of purpleheart, cocobolo, wenge, and many of the exotic colored wood.

show

You get the color of the frosting on the cupcake when purpleheart ages.

I'm very mad at Ibanez for waiting to release all these single-cuts until I started paying off my student loans.

still a fair bit better than here According to wikipedia you get almost double our annual sunshine (~2200 hours versus ~1200 here).

so you can see how horrible it is here- the city which is widely regarded (I think, right?) throughout america as raining all the time has double our sunshine.

It's a compact fluorescence lamp or CFL.

Yeesh. Well I'll have to keep it in mind then if I'm forced to flee the country, I mean...move...based on this years election. Most days I'd honestly prefer gloomy skies rather then roasting under the sun all year long.

Whatcha getting?

Mine is peeling right now, and the itching won't stop because it's right in the middle of my chest/collarbone where my shirt collar rubs on it all day long.

Oh yeah absolutely- I don't much like the heat either. I want more sunshine with the temperature pretty much the same (for example our average in the summer here barely hits 20C so you're talking mid 60s to low 70s Fahrenheit most of the time during the summer).

This is why I am staying in Santa Cruz the entire weekend and not venturing "over the hill".

Here is the ink. Its based on a propaganda poster for victory gardens from WWII, but I decided to go with the German flag colors since both my grandmother and mom (who were awesome cooks) are German. I still have to go back and get it finished next weekend.

On the bass, its on order. I had money from a gig and wanted to get a bass with a P/J pickup combo that I can mod over time, kind of a beater bass. I ordered a VM Precision P/J in Arctic Blue. I guess its a popular choice, since its presently on back order.
