boring ass amp question

i want a new high gain head. here is most of what i have. i want something to fill in the gap of my possibilities.

i am not spending a dime over $600

no mini heads, full sized only

used

tampa, FL

i have:
Splawn ProMod (now called a KT88QR)
Splawn Nitro (KT88)
Fryette Sig:X
Mesa MKIV
and plenty of clean amps and smaller, tube amps and old Marshall clones.

i am patient.

i really know a bit of what i wanted.

i am looking for a 5150 (block letter) ideally but if one doesn't pop up i will grab a 6505+ head or a mesa 2ch dual rec (ideally tremoverb), or a Krank REV+..

i think the 5150 is most likely what i will go for, as they are pretty unique tone that i can't get what i have.

i am tighter to budget than i usually am, due to picking up a house to refurb to rent out. i will be very set after that, but now just wanting.

i am not interested in XXX JSX's or ultra+

i would still like to get further ideas, but please follow the $600 budget.

Why not get a VH140? It's definitely different from what you have!

Valid idea. I have an hm2 (not the metal zone, the other more desirable one.

Still looking around...

If you haven't owned a Krank yet, get one. They have a truly unique tone. You won't get the same sound anywhere else

I have never played the + version of the rev, just the krankenstein +, but it was a while back. I think i may just pickup a 6505 though. But i would like a krank at some point.

I gotta be honest, bro. If you own all those other amps, wtf are you doing shopping for a $600 head? All of your amps should be able to do what a 5150 can do, just better You KNOW that a 5150/6505 is the only thing at the $600 level that'll run with your other amps. I know I'm coloring outside the lines here, but what about just saving & buying some cool custom amp or something? Just being devil's advocate here. You obviously know your amps.

I am kind of different with certain things, one being that i have NEVER paid over $1000 USD EVER. i am happy with what i have and know it well, I just get bored and want to buy something to keep me entertained. This is the most i can float responsibly at the minute.

I have two homes and just picked up a new property to fix up and flip, or rent. So until that is all done i wo t have play money. $30k in cash, will easily double in that market once i get it up to finished.

Thats mainly why. I think i will just go with a 5150. They are much different in voice that i have.

Sounds dumb i know

You say no Ultra Plus, what about a regular Ultra? They can get pretty damn brutal, easily going head to head with a 5150 IMO. I think they're a more interesting/fun amp to use than a 5150 TBH. Like half the price too. Just much more rare.

Read like half of this and gotta call bullshit. There's a reason 5150s and 6505s are studio fixtures next to Diezels and Bogners. The price is not the issue whatsoever. No other amp sounds like a 5150.

The latter half is what I was thinking. They have a unique tone. I think it would be the only amp in my collection i cant get that is near my budget. But a lot of the krank amps sound good too but they are few and far between.

Sorry, but I just don't think the 5150 tone is that unique. My SLO & my Mojave VH rig can copy the 5150 sound as good or better to my ears. Whatever. Just because the 5150 gets a decent sound for cheap & tons of people use them still don't make it great to me. Because tons of people like McDonald's doesn't make it a Michelin 3 star restaurant.
I can appreciate the under a grand thing...that's pretty cool. I gotta admire that!

Simply disagree I guess. I own a 6505 and I'll be at the front of the line to say that it is not a well designed amp and it does not have a great feature set. Emphasis on the poorly designed part, the amp is a joke compared to the JSX I had.

But the tone speaks for itself, really. There's a reason everyone wants or has one.

You have a really solid setup and you're GASing for a 5150, so get one. We all know they can be found for that price. I would way rather have a JSX or 3120 but that's just my style.

Interestingly enough, the same guy designed both amps! haha.

I like my 5150, but I keep it not because of the sound, but because it's a 5150. It's sill, I know, but theres something about the "mojo" of the amp that makes me keep it.

I think the sig X would cover the same territory (and more) than the 5150. You're missing a recto, go get one!
