I'm absolutely certain this has to be laminate, no need for support on this one: Ovation CC24-FKOA Celebrity Mid-Depth Acoustic-Electric Guitar Figured Koa : http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guit...electric-guitar

Oo....., pretty though,

Aww! That's heartbreaking but let's see how it actually sounds. Since I bought it [the 2778FKOA] , it's out of question for me! Though it'd be great for someone who played it to chip in. I think the reason the 2778-fkoa is not that much present in netsphere is due to this top controversy.

no worries, you're gonna love it i'm sure. Ovation makes a fantastic guitar. the perfect guitar for where you live. it'll handle the humidity issues much better than anything else you could have gotten.

Ok, so finally I stumbled across professional sound samples for the 2778ax-FKOa along with 2778ax non koa models. To my acoustically untrained ears the koa sounds sweeter in strumming and giving more discerning sound profile compared to others while the nonkoa models seem to have a louder sound and more bass. Let me know what the connoisseurs on the forum think! Link below

PS: usmc thanks for the balm!! It helps!

i think you should wait to draw conclusions till you can play the guitar. some thomann clips are pretty accurate, some not so much. btw, i wouldn't call a guitar with a laminate top heartbreaking - worst case, you got a great deal on a guitar you can sell later after you've played it for a while, and that's not so bad - best case you'll love it.

The guitar sounds pretty darned good, but the hitch in the "country" sound sample is annoying as hell.

Haha the saga continues! Just heard back from Ovation and they say it's a 5A solid Koa top.

Hello Ovation

I just bought the 2778-FKOA and I was wondering whether the top is
solid or laminate. zzounds guy told me after some research on his part that
it's a solid top but I have some opinions to the contrary. I want to know
whether it's a solid top or laminate because frankly I can return it and
get a solid top nonkoa instead.

And if it's a laminate, is it a pure koa laminate or some crappy wood
with just koa veneer on the out? I think being such a respectable brand
you guys should have come out with the official listing regarding this

Thanks

thank you ! i was starting to doubt myself. i was pretty sure that all of the Elite series has solid tops. it's the celebrity series that has laminate. but regardless of what it is, i can't wait to hear your opinion of it when it comes in. once it "opens up" it'll sound even sweeter!
