^I wish Breakfast Stout was a year round offering. One of the best beers I've had.

Having the Old Ale from my favorite local brewery right now

8.8% ABV.

It's very good. Got a growler of it last night when I went to the taproom.

Stopped by the World Market down the street. It has a better selection than the place I've been going to and isn't a bitch to get to(not off a busy street all day with no light). Founders ODB a few days ago. Was a wonderful beer and reminded me of dogfish which is always a plus.

The Breakfast stout needs to be my next pick up though I'm sure it'll be available around here for awhile.

Bought a sixer of Goose Island's Rambler IPA last week...some more good shit that you all should try.

My friend and I brewed a Breakfast Stout clone recipe yesterday. We're going to add charred oak cubes soaked in bourbon when we put it into the secondary. It's going to sit on those for about a month. I'm really excited.

Got a growler question for you experienced drinkers out there.

My local craft brew shop fills growlers with a custom counter pressure system which supposedly keeps the growler fresh for months.

HOWEVER, once you open it, I'm told you only have 24 hours to keep it fresh.

My question is this. How am I supposed to be expected to drink a growler full of beer in 24 hours? Especially some high gravity stout or DIPA...

Do you guys usually follow this rule? If so, do you only buy growlers to get hammered or share with others?

esplain me

24 hours is a bit short. I've consumed growlers over 3-4 days without a problem. You'll lose a little carbonation, but as long as you keep it sealed it won't be too bad.

I normally get one on a Friday, and drink it between Friday night and Sunday night. Never had any issues. It's really not that much to drink over 2-3 days.

So far the only real quality loss issues I've heard of is carbonation loss and oxidization. I haven't noticed much carbonation loss in any of mine. Oxidation... well I don't really know what that would taste like.

I usually drink them either in one night or over two nights. Never noticed a problem in that period

That Atwater doesn't get very good ratings, but I really enjoy it.

Trying this tonight:

show

Surprisingly good. Not quite the complexity of the better Belgian tripels, but certainly one of my favorite American offerings. And from a brewery just down the way a bit, too.
