Just bought Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's book on Orchestration there yesterday, but I haven't cracked into it yet!

I love Penderecki and Stravinsky.

Stravinsky studied under N R-K but I heard he tried to buck against everything he was taught. However I reckon that means that this book is the blueprint for making his Modernist stuff.

I've been trying to understand Serialism and I think that my problem is, I get the concepts but they're just a way of expressing pure composition, structure and orchestration. Like how when you take away things like melody and leading tones and functional harmony, you're left to focus on everything else.

So that brings me to Rimsky-Korsakov!
