Yo can somebody explain to me the difference between techno and house? I'm very poorly versed in electronica nuances so just trying to learn.

Also what does that make tech house then? lol

techno and house and tech house and minimal all sound a lot like each other, and I'm not sure i can really explain the difference except that i know i can't stand techno for some reason. it's just a lot more irritating somehow.

Some of the ambient/idm variants make for pretty good tunes.

I am looking for minor key ambient/techno with an oceanic vibe

Assuming you mean ambient OR techno.

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92, Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2
Plastikman - Sheet One
Pantha du Prince - Black Noise
Thomas Koner - Teimo

and paradoxically, I feel like Brian Eno's Ambient 4: On Land could work. Tbh, I don't really know what you mean by 'oceanic', but hopefully at least some of those sound like waves of sound washing over you.

Something along the lines of Heliosphan from the Aphex Twin album, if that helps. Some music with muffled synths would be greatly appreciated too

Putting specific moods into words is not my forte, lol

Recc-ing albums isn't my forte lol. :X

Regardless, I'll give it a shot:

The Orb - Adventures beyond the Ultraworld
Boards of Canada - Music has the right to Children

BoC is like, muffled/lo-fi synthtopia in general. Behold!

Are there any less familiar releases that would fit? Compilations are okay. I've been listening to numerous 'deep house' compilations but could only pick out some tracks.

Perhaps it is practical to look around the streaming services of the internet as these acts are not likely to let out any material outside of mixes

I guess a useful rule would be: the older the better

I'm stumped bro haha

Yeah I suppose spotify or something could help you, since it's basically designed to give you similar stuff to what you put in. I'm not very well versed in ambient/house/techno outside of the classics. Discogs.com is also really good at categorizing all this stuff by genre and whatnot. You could try to look up downtempo/chillout stuff (ie. Tycho, Bonobo) along with what you're trying to find.

Caught his new live show a couple of months ago, it was an interesting listen although it didn't really get people moving. I still need to pick up more of the Skull Disco stuff, just for the fucking killer sleeves.

show

on the topic of ambient type music (BoC, aphex twin etc) if you're into real calm ambient with a lot of feeling, here's an amazing song i stumbled upon somehow a few months ago
