Fingers kinda whitish/purpleish after playing?

After I've been playing for a while, my fingertips have white marks where the strings touch them, and the area around them is kinda discolored purple. They don't hurt at all, I've been playing for a year and have gotten used to it. Am I just pressing on the strings too hard? It goes away after a few minutes, but I'm just wondering.

Hmm, that sounds a bit odd. Are the strings old or rusted?
