So, ten years ago, when I was just a wee lad, and had just started playing guitar, I fell in love with Telecasters. I would have given anything to have one with the words "Fender" on it. A couple of years later, having been playing various acoustics and a dead fretty starter pack guitar for a while, I spotted a lovely red Tele in my local music store. It wasn't a Fender, in fact it was made by the same people who made my starter pack. I passed it up, and got a Squier Tele. However, I never really fell out of love with that red Telecaster. Since then I've bought a few more guitars, culminating (I thought) with my Electromatic Pro Jet earlier this year. BUT. Yesterday I swung down to a store that was having a large sale. There, in the corner, lay this:



It was red. And it had the words Fender on it.



Yum


Sure, it's only Mexican, but I don't care one bit. It sounds fantastic, it feels amazing and (to me) it looks soooo pretty.

Sound: It sounds like a Telecaster. Bridge pickup has twang and bite, but also warmth for bright cleans. The neck pickup is, of course, bassy and a tiny bit muddy, but probably not too muddy.

Quality: Top notch. The action was great, the construction is flawless (almost) and as I mentioned, it looks purdy.

The only thing I don't like, is that there's a knot type thing in the neck wood around the third fret:



It's a bit darker in real life. The good thing is that it doesn't affect the sound and it adds character.

Also it's a 60th anniversary model, which gives it some merit

My first tele was a knockoff JB Turser red tele and it was awesome. But I've since sold that and now I have a Fender 72 reissue. I love the Tele versatility with the added humbuckers, but I do miss the prettiness of a hotrod red tele. HNGD!

Looks very nice! Don't stress about that(what I'm guessing is a) curl in the neck. Wood is imperfect and stuff like that should be expected(or even celebrated).

I know what you mean. The neck on my Squier didn't have any markings or character at all. It just looked like maple coloured plastic. This is a real neck.

I love Telecasters. Used to hate them. Thought they ere ugly, sounded awful... Then I saw the light. Now have a Baja Telecaster and it's fantastic.

Hngd! Maple fretboard is the only way to go with a Telecaster. Unless it's one of those crazy badass rosewood Telecasters. They are SO nice. But very rare and just as expensive.
