I've been seriously lacking in death metal recently, but this is pretty inspiring. Deicide riffing and Obituary groove with some Suffo styled production.

Also, Bolzer is crazy. These guys really create some powerful atmosphere and visuals.

Anyway, this band, man. The contrast between clean and distorted passages echo Disembowelment, but the songwriting is much more tightly knit, I think.

This has been kicking my ass for the last 24 hours. Raging, grimy OSDM.

I don't really get the hype about this one. The doom parts didn't get me and even if they had thereäd be this stupid Led Zeppelin part following them.

Not my cup of tea, thank you!

Listen to something like Esoterics (who I am going to see live next month) Paragon of Dissonance if you want good doom.

Coherence lies not in aesthetics alone. The band writes songs that portray an adventure through riff development; not entirely palatable, but that should be expected. What's not to appreciate if you're not a total poser gay

The term "doom" is used loosely like in the sense that Dark Millennium's Ashore the Celestial Burden utilizes the death/doom tag. I don't think Condor are really that impressive, but it's certainly a solid effort.

Bands like Esoteric are of the variety of funeral doom, think more on the upbeat end of doom like Candlemass's Epicus.... Not that Esoteric are bad though since they've made some enjoyable music.

Condor's tracks certainly do take you on an adventure with their transitions from aggressive to mellow to mystical back to aggressive then back to mystical. Like a sonic roller coaster.

Condor and Esoteric are both good bands. Nadia is a bit of a grower, and it doesn't fit neatly into any one subgenre, but the movement between different styles adds to that journey like feeling without being obnoxious.

The Led Zeppelin comparison is actually quite apt, then.

I can't get over how good Blessed are the Sick is musically but how ****ing shitty the production is. Good god who mixed this and thought it was a good idea?

I used to hate that mix as well but over time I just accepted it and I am quite partial to it. It's not as treble based as Altars and not as muffled as Covenant; it's the nice in between.

Also I think the answer to your question is Scott Burns

Seriously? Looks like he's produced so many albums I like (just off the stuff on his wiki page), but Blessed is just too...'scooped' for me. It sounds really muddled and almost sterile as a result. Altars had this warmth to it that really made it sound in-your-face.

The main problem with it is that the vocals are too loud. The other instruments are nice and defined, but they lack real power, and this is greatly compounded by the fact that compared to the vocals they sound quiet, no matter how high you set the volume. It makes the lyrics easy to understand though, which is a plus since the first two thirds are a kind of mini concept album.

I agree with the loud mix for Vincent, but I can agree the instruments are lower in the mix and it is slightly detrimental. Also the album was fairly early for death metal and they were obviously finding the sweet spot. As for early death metal mixes, I am quite fond of Final Holocaust and Piece of Time.

Blessed's mix complements the slithering riffs quite well

I love Blessed. Sometimes regardless of how "terrible" the mix may sound.. the music is indeed amazing. Take for example Schizophrenia by Sepultura. Sure its primitive... but that is the idea... if it was super good quality it would sound like any other shitty ass band we hear today.

I'm not even overrating it. I was sitting here mindlessly listening away and then all of a sudden, I broke into spasm, but it wasn't a fit, I was drumming and banging my head alongside these MONSTROUS riffs. This happens very rarely.

If you haven't listened to it yet, YOU'RE OVERDUE

I agree man it has become one of my favorites as well, it is ****ing beyond just about anything I've ever heard especially new stuff definitely God-Tier.

Some solid death metal. Take a listen (or don't and be gay).
