New Guitar?

Hello people,

I was just thinking what would be the best guitar for me as I am just starting to play gigs and my $200 first guitar and amp can't handle that anymore.

Preferences: Superstrat/ Les Paul/RR V. I'm open to anything really. Except those awful BC Rich guitars excluding the mockingbird.

Pup Config: Either HH or HSH. I need a neck HB.

New or used: Either. Preferably new

Styles: Hard Rock/ Hair Metal. Late 70's to early 90's kind of thing. GNR, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith. Sound I want is a Slash meets Van Halen kind of thing (See pups down below.)

Budget: $700 for guitar. $1000 for amp(used. more value).

Other details: I've narrowed it down to Ibanez's, Jacksons and Kramers. I need a Floyd or similar floating style bridges.
Stock pups don't matter. I like the GFS PAF clones and VEH Extra Hot. I'll be getting those.

Flamed top and a thin neck would be a nice bonus.

I was thinking a 5150/6505 for the amp since Marshalls are too pricey. Leaves some money for my pedalboard. I'm going JOYO all the way for that, if it helps.

My current gear is my cheap first guitar, Fender Mustang 1 V1 and an EHX big Muff.

Thanks.

I know what you said about brands, but Fernandes is having a clearance sale on a limited number of their guitars right now, and their deals are hard to beat. Buy one of these deeply discounted guitars, and you'll have a quality axe up to the job and $$$ left over to sink into pedals or your amp::

(They have other guitars, but I stayed away from those without tremolos or that had EMGs.)

Thanks for the recommendations. I've narrowed it down to these 4.

Fernandes Ravelle Elite

Fernandes Vortex Elite
http://www.fernandesguitarshop.com/...rtex-elite.html

Jackson RRXMG

Jackson Soloist SLXQ

Like I said, I'm swapping out the pups and putting them in my old guitar. So pups don't matter unless they really affect the price.

Anyone know the pros and cons of each instrument ie

How will they retain their value?
Should I swap the pups?
Will I notice the difference from a Licensed Floyd to an original Floyd?
Should I install a tremol-no for different tunings?

I am in an 80's esq hair metal band and I want the guitar to look the part too.

For the amp, it's either the 5150(used) or a JCA 50 watt(new). Other suggestions are welcome.

The Fernandes guitars are MiK, and like Jackson, they've focused on the hard-rock/metal genre. Relatively slender necks, hot pickups, etc.

The biggest advantage they have per the Jacksons right now is price, though. Those clearance prices are between 40-67% off.

My current guitar is MiK. IMO the build quality is fantastic. That Ravelle looks incredible. Although, I'm leaning more towards the Jackson's in terms of looks and what I've heard about playability. I've never seen Fernandes around here so shipping might be a problem. There are quite a few Jackson models here though.

By far, the best price:quality ratio around here is the Ibanez S470/S520. Can be had for less than 700. Anyone here played one of those?

I got a fernandes a couple weeks ago really impressed with it for being mik. My only issues with it were it was missing a screw to lock the tremolo bar in and the pick guard doesn't quite fit the bottom edge. Can't really comment on the specific modals you want since I got the retrorocket elite but I would defenitly buy from them again.

Some people don't like the non-traditional shapes of BC Rich's, but they also make some traditional shaped guitars like this ASM Pro. This one at Guitar Center in Excellent condition has quality features all around for $400. I doubt you will find a better guitar with a Floyd in that price range. I have 2 BC's made in Korea that are great quality. I might buy it if you don't soon...

Construction: neck-through
Body wood: Mahogany
Top style: flat top
Tuners: Grover

Fretboard: ebony
Frets: 24 jumbo
Scale: 25 1/2"

Bridge: Floyd Rose Original
Pickups: EMG 85 neck, 81 bridge
Controls: 1 volume, 1 three-way toggle and 1 tone

Blackfire, I'm not in the US nor have I any friends/ relatives over there so GC isn't an option. I have a cousin in Ireland though. Should I get him to order one through Thomann and bring it to me when he comes down? Because it will definitely be cheaper that way.

And like I said, I'm really leaning towards the Jacksons. Can anyone recommend a Kramer model? I don't know much about them other than most 80's bands used them.

Thomann doesn't list that model on their site that I can see. I was pointing that one out because at that price used in excellent condition is a steal for what you get. Where are you located?

Is there a list of places you know of that will ship to you? I'm not sure where to find something you might like...

I looked at your profile and noted that you're in Malysia. Have you ever considered one of the more locally produced brands like Swing or Radix? They're making some guitars with specs that hold up pretty well with bigger names.

I think rondo music and GFS ships here. Ebay, not Amazon ships here. Yamaha definitely ships here.

That Swing guitar looks fantastic. Here are some local places. $1=RM3.

Anyone heard of that guitar?

I've actually considered getting a Swing Exciter Gold. I own a custom guitar with Tesla pickups in it, namely a VR-Etreme HB and a pair of Opus-S1 singlecoils. Very nice tones come out of those.

I went to my bookmarked UNO page, and found a wall of writing in a language I didn't read. They may not be in biz. Or they may have changed URLs. IDK, sorry.

Schecter Blackjack and a Peavey 6505 2x12 would probably fit your budget and be absolutely perfect
